Alternate Sump Filter ver.2.0

So, instead of using that stainless reusable filter, I would think that the $5-$6 throwaway filters for the same intended application could also be used with your hardware? That would not be a bad option considering the solvent and time involved in cleaning the stainless unit. Even better if the throwaway filter could be used for two or three oil changes before replacing.

Any opinions on that? I know it's almost a moot question without the parts in hand.

Peckin' away at small batch of 'em when time permits. This being one of our busy times at work (HVAC guy by trade) and getting everything snuggled in for the big freeze puts a damper on garage time.

Yep I was a commercial HVAC tech in Minneapolis but retired 3 years ago. Do not miss working on the roof tops at -5 below.

These SS filters are a direct replacement for the disposable ones so I see no reason they wouldn't work.
As for magnets, keep going back and forth on those. Like Jim says both plugs have magnets already.

I'm in when you have a batch ready, no hurry, still several months from running.

Speaking of magnetic drain plugs.....

I compared my original '71 drain plugs to some newer ones. The test was to lay a screwdriver atop the magnet, and try to lift it. My old plugs wouldn't hold, wouldn't even lift off the table. Same test on the newer, but still used, plugs, I could lift them up off the table. Stronger magnets.

What I think would be cool would be drainplugs with stronger rare-earth magnets.
But, would like to avoid this mess.

Takes forever to clean. Whutta mess.
Maybe something with a thin cover.
Peel it off, and the goo comes off with it

Or, maybe something like this novel design.

The outer cap unscrews, then withdraw the captured magnet.

Looks like something that's easier to clean...

Stick a neodynemium magnet to the outside of your sump plug, when it’s oil change time simply take off the magnet and wipe the plug clean replace magnet.
I have them stuck inside the engine near the suction screen on my Sunbeam.
