Whats your weather right now?

everyone in their neighborhood had chickens, because chickens would eat the scorpions.

Scorpions are a serious problem in some areas. The last house I lived in for 30 years , the first 20 I never saw one, then they just exploded. You would not believe the measures I took to try and control them and the money it cost. The bad thing is, they really like to come inside homes and they can enter through the tiniest crack. And you’re right about chickens, they are scorpion slayers!

Scorpions were a problem in the Middle East deserts too.... along with Centipedes almost a foot long and Camel Spiders. Living in a tent, you quickly learned to shake your boots out in the morning. :yikes:
To this day... I still do that.

That's Frank Zappa, isn't it? Saw him once at the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ. Before his first song, he said," This is a song. I just made it up. If you don't like it, I don't give a fuck!" Everyone screamed and bood.
52 degrees, today. Tee shirt weather if your climbing a hiking trail. Went up Anthony's Nose. Cannon trails and gun emplacements to protect West Point and the chain across the Hudson. Found a broken arrowhead from the Wappinger Indians,(200 to 400 years old.) High clouds moving in from two lows coming together in the Carolinas that will turn into a coastal storm.

Its cold and windy today..40* for a high but later in the coming week it will warm up to the mid 50s to low 60s. but right now its not too nice..in fact my arthritis is so bad that i am going to get my trigger point injections a month early...I usually can wait 3 to 4 months but its only been 2 months since the last round...

40 degrees and 40 mph wind gusts. Drove to Sandy Hook to see the waves and coastal flooding. A machine gun bunker that used to be 200 ft from the wash several years ago has been claimed by the angry sea. This used to be a proving grounds for weaponry before they moved it to Aberdeen, Maryland. There are chunks of blasted metal and whole projectiles everywhere under the sand. No metal detectors allowed, here. The Navasink River behind Seabright is pushed back by the nor'easter and has come over the bulkheads. The tide, 3 ft above normal, can't go out. The houses across the river sit precariously above the waterline (one belongs to Bon Jovi). Seabright, sitting on a narrow isthmus, floods from the ocean, out front, and the river, behind. Draw bridge over Shark River Inlet, 8 ft jumbled rollers coming over the inlet rocks. I walked into the wind to get here for a mile on the boardwalk, having to lean forward to do so. And there were a few motorcycles and this guy with a home made roadster out for a cruise on Ocean Avenue.

I like being here, 1 hr from beach and mountains. But since Super Storm Sandy, Seaside and the shore has changed...

:(:(:( That is a real shame...I knew Sandy changed the NJ shore forever..it doesnt look like much was done to help the shore communities either...I would never want to own property along the ocean..that is only asking for trouble...
BTW its 86* here today..well in my bedroom it is...LOL

We liked it in Jersey too..lots of family and friends..but after 35 yrs we just could not afford to live there anymore...10 yrs ago our property taxes were $10,000...coupled with unemployment and we were just being smothered to death...Thats $100000 we didnt have to pay to the state of NJ...In comparison we have paid something like $6000 in total for the 10 yrs of property taxes here in NC.. soooooo...In retrospect we are very happy we left NJ..will the last person to leave NJ please turn off the lights...

It’s been freezing overnight and the ice still laying long into the day on sheltered stretches of untreated roads - but I’ve been out!

Fawksey, you are a hardy soul!. Been freezing overnight here too.

PICT2004.JPG

That's the view of the neighbours' garden out of the window where I'm sitting. It was down to about -10°C overnight ( about 14°F ? ) and it ain't warmed up a lot since. Certainly well below freezing.

Beautiful frost but I don't think I'll be out on two wheels today.
