Nutrition health and Weight loss

Ok Peanut..the link to the Video that Marty gave us shows a Dr. refuting claims by Jillian Michaels in regard to losing weight by intermittent fasting..may not have medical reasearch to back it up but its common sense stuff..If you took the time to watch it then you would know this is the Wheat..not the chaff..so to say.. I have subscribed to this Dr's videos and such...no cost to do so..he makes perfectly good sense to me...I'd say he is worth the time to watch..
https://www.youtube.com/user/drekberg

i watched the video earlier the whole way through and found so many errors and misinformation that I gave up writing it all down .
Basically it is not intended to educate and inform about nutrition and health but rather to refute Jillians claims about fasting and weight loss .
The video attempts to cover a lot of complex topics in a short period of time and thus is pitched at an extremely basic superficial level regarding physiology and metabolism . There is so much left out and some of his comments are either factually incorrect or misleading due to the somewhat simplistic explanation about autophagy and Insulin etc.

He even states (9.42 minutes ) that 'different amounts of Insulin is dependant on the quality of the food ' which is of course complete nonsense. Insulin production is dependant on the presence of Carbohydrates and sugar in our food ...quality has little to do with it .Anyone with a blood glucose monitor can demonstrate this for themselves.

Sorry max I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the quality and accuracy of the information in the video .

Thats fine Peanut..I appreciate your point of view..You are more into this than I am...Obviously i as a layman cannot decipher every comment and statement to be factual..so I do appreciate a differing POV. I will refrain from further postings of this nature.

I am currently watching this one..Tell me this isnt the truth?

first of all i have to say that it is not made clear in any of his videos that Sten Ekburg is not a medical Doctor he is a nutritionist and Chiropractor .As presented the viewer is left with the impression that they are listening to a Medically trained and qualified Doctor so viewers would naturally attribute more weight to his views and advice than perhaps they would if it was made clear that he is a Chiropractor.

That said a lot of what he says in the second video has some elements of truth in them but they are given without a single shred of proof or reference to any established and recognisable medical or scientific study. Its basically this is how it is take my word for it or not. I would always prefer to see at least some attempt at an explanation of some of his claims .

if I had one criticism of this video it would be about his claims for effective Cancer treatment using autophagy (9.20 minutes) I am not aware of any scientific tests or proofs to support this claim

ok I know when I am wasting my time and my limited time is far too precious for me to waste it on arguing with you about videos.

I have spent countless hours of research to bring to this thread some serious factual advice and information about improving your health and reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and the causes of chronic illness and all I've got for my effort is criticism argument and stupid unsubstantiated opinion and videos cluttering up the thread .I created this thread for the benefit of others not mine

I know when I am beat ... As a very wise man said some weeks ago I should have started a blog where I have complete control over what is posted and can remove unwanted or misleading information , advice and stupid comments about smoking cigars..... on a health thread. for crissakes .

Me too. I'm sorry to waste your time.

its not my time you are wasting marty ..........you're wasting your own.:)

You have been offered a free opportunity to learn something important about health and nutrition and all you can contribute is that you smoke cigars ...Practically the entire World has banned smoking because of the proven health risks and mortality rates and your contribution to improving your health and cutting the risks of ill health and death is to smoke !????

Peanut,
You started this thread and I'll respect your wishes. I will say that this is The Lounge section of a motorcycle forum. We're here because we share the interest of XS650 and are drawn together as friends. This always has the tendency to become a virtual bar. I've been bantering with Fred in S'toon on various forums for what, 20 years? There are dedicated health forums all over the internet where you can go and stay on topic. Stay here if it pleases you, but you get what you get.

As for my health failings, what's the difference between my cigar and your slice of cake (or whatever it was)? I forgive myself a small indulgence and move on. I hope you can do the same. I'm sure you missed my point and that's surely my fault. Anyway, I will back away from your thread as my BS is apparently not appreciated. No hurt feelings. All is well. Peace, out.

Marty . thank you for your comments which are very welcome .

I have thought about this matter overnight and now that I have had a chance to think about this i find that I have a different view of things than I had yesterday.

My initial intentions for the thread was to provide a one stop source for scientifically backed, peer reviewed information about Health and Nutrition. I wanted to cut through all the fake unicorn nonsense out there and provide only scientifically 'proven' facts and information so that anyone seriously interested in their health and nutrition would hopefully find no quackery, bulls**t and personal opinions etc .

I did ask that posters only upload videos and advice which contained published links to the Scientific/ Medical source of the material so that those that were serious about researching and understanding their various health issues could be sure that the information was correct ,factual and verifiable and above all trustworthy. it would seem that either folk haven't read my aims in the initial posts in this thread or haven't understood my intentions in this respect.

Many of us appear to be either unable to or not sufficiently interested or concerned about their health to do any serious research and would rather have it spoon fed to them in simple, easy to understand, friendly pre- packaged podcasts rather like the refined foods we all buy, microwave and stuff in our gobs. Its easy,......convenient and frankly who really cares about the serious damage that poor nutrition and misleading health information is having on our health and well being !

I am going to persevere with this thread because if the information that I upload is beneficial to just a single persons health it will be worthwhile.

I have uploaded a snippit of a recent podcast about Myopia between Ivor Cummins and Jake Stenier and expert in Myopia .
A link to the full interview is below .
The point of the short excerpt is to illustrate what I mean about trusting online information that is scientifically backed. Jack makes the point better than me

Cross posting from the health thread..but actually meant to just post it here...
Gonna have a real Thanksgiving diiner tmrw...Turkey..stuffing.. with gravy.. candied yams...mashed potatoes..creamed spinach .. No desserts of any type...No alcohol...Not going to stuff myself..but a little of everything...Still there will be damage....But hell you do have to live once in a while..eh?
Good to be with family on Staten Island NY...

My weight loss has been slowing, but down to 170 lbs now.

Getting the cravings for crunchy snacks, especially when the temps drop, and just set inside riding it out. Found these Keto-friendly cheese snacks.

Never been much of a cheese person, so this will be a learning experience...

I celebrated my weight loss by allowing some rice and bread back into my diet.

The weight loss stopped.
So, back on the Keto diet.

Down to 160 lbs now.

Difficulty tolerating the cold.
Lots of extra skin around my belly.
Gotta be careful out in the wind,

Or it'll flap me like crazy...

160lbs! Dang brother! Good to see you’re still kicking, I was beginning to think maybe one of those wild boars got the better of you on some dark night! ;)

I’m at 205 lbs since about October. My diet is mostly very strict. I have forgiven myself a few indulgences, but I have not gone back to my old ways. I took up CrossFit seven weeks ago. I go three time a week to get my butt kicked by some young person. It hurts to go, but I’m addicted to feeling this good. I’m defeating arthritis. Workouts hurt, but chronic pain is subsiding. My instructors are helping me get there. I’m not going to lose weight doing this, but I lost six inches around my gut.

I'm back to 140# myself..After Thanksgiving and Christmas I had gained as much as 7 pounds ..It is amazing how quickly it comes back while it seems to take forever for the weight to return to where it was beforehand...
I can allow some carbs back into my diet but not everyday..maybe twice a week. The rest of the time I adhere to the keto plan...I am maintaining this weight with no difficulties at all...I do light workouts at Planet Fitness..mostly treadmills and eliptical walking and bicycles...The most important thing to gain from this is cardio vascular fitness..and muscular-skeletal maintainence/exercise...not sure it helps my arthralgia but other modalities seem to be working in that regard..so we are feeling much improved ..

1st pic didnt come through..but you look great...
I think it's fixed.

Also, since I started CrossFit, pulling my knee back to rest my foot on the peg is no longer an issue. Yes, the exercise hurts, but the chronic pain is going away little by little.
