Never mind, found some kids video, very helpful. All good.

I got the ring nut off the advancer, how does the plate come off behind it? Same way? Bang it with a punch?

Also, can’t find a parts fiche for advancer shaft parts. Anyone have a link, I looked at partzilla and partsfish, couldn’t find it. I want to replace those fine washers and ring nut. Found the part # on Babbitts 256-81653-10-00

The advance unit backing plate just slides on and off the end of the cam. That notched ring is all that holds it on. But, there is a locating pin sticking out of the cam that the advance unit fits onto. This keeps it from spinning on the cam, locks it to it in the correct position so the timing is right. So, when removing, you slide it straight off. Don't try to twist it back and forth, the locating pin won't allow that, and you could do damage to the locating pin slot on the back of the advance unit .....

And speaking of that slot, notice the pin in the plate above it, circled in the above pic. That keeps the locating pin in the cam from falling out as the cam spins. The pin is pressed into the plate and shows through on the front side .....

You can see the one in yours in your pic. It's just below the "A" in the "AD113...." stamping.

The cam and the advance unit backing plate are just raw steel. From the rust I see on your advance unit, there's a good chance it has rusted onto the end of the cam too. I'd soak it real good with penetrating oil, maybe heat it up a little too. Then just "work" it off. Some gentle prying out at the edges, maybe some driving back in with a flat faced punch. Once off, coat the end of the cam with anti-seize before putting the advance unit back on. Mine was a bit stuck on there. After getting it off, I anti-seized the cam end before install. Here's a pic of the end of my cam after I removed the advance about 5 years later. You can see the copper anti-seize on there. The advance unit easily slid right off .....

Thank you @5twins, Excellent right up and pics. Wish the manual was as thorough.

Mine was rusted on but, I think I got it off with out damage to the pins.

Since the advance unit backing plate is just raw steel, I rub it down with motor oil, front and back, before install. Just a light coating, enough to make it shine. Put too much on and centrifugal force will just fling it off all over the inside of the housing and make a mess, lol. I lightly grease the weight pivot posts and wet down the springs with oil too. In the future, to maintain it, I use a few drops of foaming chain lube, a couple on the posts and one on each spring. I do this after a ride while the engine is still warm so the lube penetrates better.

Advance unit servicing and advance rod greasing isn't needed very often (maybe every 5 years or so) but it is required. Many haven't been touched since they left the factory 30+ years ago so they're long overdue.

This is probably one that hasn’t seen oil the 30 years. In fact I think it is the only place oil isn’t leaking into or out of on the bike.
