Is the Royal Enfield becoming the new XS? S&S offer performance parts already.

Back in the day(I'm talking 40 yr back) I had a Soviet era Ural M-66 combo. It ran and handled like an old bike it was copied from. I swear it could plow if it could get enough traction. The machining was horrible crude. Look at one now and it would be equal to anybody in Europe.
I'm sure India built RE has done the same with their line of bikes over time.

And when you have robots painting and punching out digital-perfect parts like cookies, it's easy for even the most technologically backwards countries to produce a level of fit-and-finish impossible fifty years ago. As long as the assembly line workers put the nut on the bolt...put the nut on the bolt...put the....... Yeah. They can build a quality product. But, again, how far is it to the nearest dealer?...

How many of you remember there were Royal Enfield Indians?

No, but it's really sweet. I did see a '66 Royal Enfield in someone's driveway in the next town. It was 1973, and I fell in love. It reminded me of the Cadillac of Beezers. So much so, that I tried to emulate the chrome work on my Yamaha. From what I recall, it was a pricey bike like a Norton. I just noticed the chrome center stand, too.

Personally, I don't think I need a dealer if they're willing to send the part to fix it. I talked to an Alabama dealer at Barber. He told me comebacks have become very rare for his RE line.
You might need the dealer to maintain the warranty...

The concept of a " new XS650" strikes me as rather like a "new XKE" Ikons of another era are not reborn. And while the Brit-bike lines certainly influenced the design of what would become Yamaha"s first four stroke, the 650 Twin Yamaha, I need not remind you, was a GERMAN motorcycle. So it's a bit silly to mix the RE with the XS.

The XS-1 - XS 650 line, is a world of its own and RE was never part of that world and never will be.

I recall that 750 interceptor was the fastest bike in the world in 1968 pounding even the mighty sportster $1200 out the door in Dayton ohio the original re was a very modern design with separate cylinders one click neutral finder oil filtration, no extra charge for the prince of darkness' electrics gobbs of low end grunt yes I did love that scooter blew it up at 110 mph going down a canyon rd in Utah my fault forgot the oil qty las low before my mad dash racing a corvette

I pulled the trigger on an Interceptor chrome last Thursday.

Here in Oz retail was 10,300 South Pacific Pesos, I got to deal it down to 9,000.

Only 2 years warranty here.

I don't really like the servicing interval of 6,00km (Max Pete can convert).

Only 47BHP but all I wanted was a town bike.

Yup I agree those exhaust baffles have to come out.

I think the build quality has come a long way.

IMHO I think it would make a jellyfish go hard!!!

GeeDub

Yeah, the 6000 km service interval (EDIT that’s 3600 miles) is a bit short but since the bike really isn’t intended for trans-continental touring, in terms of weeks / months, it isn’t so bad. Besides, the servicing, from what I’ve seen on the web, looks pretty simple.

India's technology today far exceeds many third world countries, in fact their defense technology is far superior than any country on earth, air or ground they can knock it out of commission with a flip of switch. Just google it, a real eye opener.
If the Royal Engine engine where a 360 combined with a balance shaft I'd consider purchasing one but not a 270 as it takes a certain muffler to make it
growl right with the perfect tone.

The right muffler, headers, computer tuning and those HP #s shoot up.

I think they'd better take a serious look at the untrained eejit welding the frames together.
Wtf?
Looks like an extremely poor design. No bracing and thin wall square tubing?
I seem to have a recollection of Harris in the UK were involved with frame upgrades of the Bullet 500 years back. The lessons learned then have apparently been lost........

Some disturbing news..In my local Advrider group is one person who bought a new RE ..a single cyl. model..but not sure which one...Seems right after the local Honda dealer that is selling these..right after a oil change...The engine casing blew a hole in it and all the oil sprayed out..It was being ridden at the time..Well it turns out RE will not stand behind it..and the dealership suggested the patron total ot.out through their insurance company.
But GEICO will not cover the the full cost of the bike...so they are being screwed...
So if a manufacturing defect occurs at they are at fault as in this case..RE won't stand behind it and replace the engine...As far as I am concerned..this is a deal killer...
