Electronic Ignition for xs650

Is that a tilt all tripod ?

not quite shure, I got it at the salvation army store for like 4 bucks, its really sweet, all aluminum construction, all the locks on the extendable legs and pivoting head work reaaly sweet, this will be the first time I have used it, even thou I had it for years now, it might even be made in France if I remember right, Ill take another look, but I know its WAAY nicer the the hundred dollar ones Ive seen, has a late 70s feel to it (stickers and construction),

The set I got (direct from web site $110 delivered.) did NOT have the LEDs.

that realy sucks Gary, I wonder if you could return yours unopened? and I am still able to get three more at the discount, Im getting mine direct from tytronics also.. I assume he was trying to off the last of the old version.. I didn't even know I would be reciving three with the LED lights until they arrived, kinda not fair in my opinion that you got that style.

like I mentioned before I can get three at 75 dollars a pop, and Im only charging the 7.65 to ship them, I can pass this on to anyone interested, I said before I would need three people to be able to to make the order but I can do it with 2.

No worries.

ok guys im so disappointed, I have been uploading the install video to you tube for 4 hours, and it says 21 percent uploaded, WTF?? its not even that long,,:banghead:

the "trailer" video uploaded just fine.:umm:

I took the bike for a ride with the ignition on it, and heres my seat of the pants opinion, fist I want to say sometimes I buy ethanol free gasoline at the gas station up here on the mountain, and every time I do I knowtice it starts easyier and it idles smooth as butter, and the power as I roll on the throttle seems clean and linear, now I know some might say that's because my jetting is better suited to the 92 ethanol free gas, but I tend to disagree, I have FINE tuned my jetting to the point that I have bought micro drill bits and am running a 1/2 sise jet, meaning im in between sises on the progressive or slow jet, I have even played with in the past the non removable jets in the entry bell mouth (found its unnecacary for most aplications) but with that all being said, as soon as I rode the bike with the new ignition, it felt the same as with good gas, clean throttle resopnce thre the entire rpm range, super stable idle. it almost lost the lopey twin idle we all love to hate lol, anyways I will continue to atemt to upload the video, and if I need tech support I think my womans 10 year old can help me BAH!
edit: by the way it was below freezing here today when I rode

the other one of the first three went out to RC4man, he says he wont be installing until the spring time,

I gotta little ways to go too.

mr moto wheel, when do you think yours will be installed?

It may be installed soon, but not tested until about March. I think I've changed my plans. I may go whole hog on the installation. Someone has to do it, try it. 3 ohm dual output coil, Tytronic's orange and gray wire spliced together before connecting to the coil primary. I'll use no diodes or ballast resistor, maybe an inline fuse on the red wire of the Tytronic.

Yes, I'd like to see someone cook something up that works with one dual output coil, like the Pamco or stock TCI did. I gotta say, me and my buddy are lovin' those Honda MP08 coils we installed. I'd love to be able to use one with a cheap home brew ignition.

I'm thinking you'll need to put diodes on the output of both triggers... lest one interfere with the other.
Beyond that, I wonder why you'd want to change it to a single coil system? One of the few advantages to the old points system was the fact that they're essentially 2 independent iggy systems. Anyone who's ever limped home on one cylinder can appreciate that advantage.

Jim, the MP08 is my coil of choice, three bikes running on them, soon to be 5. On this bobber I have a Wassel low tunnel tank that was chosen and installed with the thought of using one dual output coil. The MP08 is mounted. All of my other bikes are wasted spark. I wouldn't know what other single output coil to use and I wouldn't like the fit. So, no other choice for me, I'm not looking for other choices, I like my choices. If the Tytronic fries I will reinstall the points wired for wasted spark and then try Mike's ignition.

And, I can really see myself using the diodes and wondering if I really need them.

Understand Scott. And don't get me wrong, I'm running the MP08 in my SG. I think it's a damn good coil.

Here's a thought for anyone who wants to try it... and come to think of it, I might.... machine a magnet rotor that will bolt to the crank rotor and press in 2 magnets. Might have to make the hole in the stator bigger. That way you can just use one of the triggers and viola.... a crank driven iggy system. :D

these?

Yeah those. Honda used them on over 70 models. Great reputation. The two generations of Honda coils before them did not have such a good reputation, not lousy, but not good. I have a big box of the previous Honda coils that are marked with felt markers "bad". The MP08 is a 3ohm coil that works best with TCI ignitions. They can be used with points but only with a ballast resistor, or the points will fry. So, 3ohms plus the ohms of the resistor equals the ohm spec of the stock coil for points.
