What have you done to your XS today?

I haven’t done anything. Roland still has my carbs. But...I did do something else.Ive been restoring bikes one at a time for over 10 years now. I lived in a small townhouse for the first 5 or 6. One of my best friends told me years ago “ Gate, you gotta get these off the ground” OK. I did. First stage was a set of small plastic saw horses and a piece of plywood. Worked well. Second stage was my dining room table with the top removed and a piece of plywood screwed to the top. Worked well but needed a lot of manpower to get it off. Not any more. Santa came early. I bought a lift table. No more crouching over or getting on my back.

Very nice. You won't regret it. I have 2 and would not mind having a third. Great for working on bikes and double as work benches.

I’m still waiting for Roland to go through my carbs. I bought them from a guy in Texas. Supposedly doing vintage carbs for years. The left side was seeping pretty good at the top of the float bowl. No dumping from the overflow. View attachment 154986 I checked the bowl screws. Good. Checked the float level while the carb was upside down. Good. At that point I took them both in last Monday. Rolands been racing in GA since last Wednesday. Actually won their 20 championship on Monday. 264 MPH at a 5.65 But I did order a new reg and a new rec for the XS2.
Your 72 is so clean! Wow! Looks like you went back in time and bought it new. Very nice!

Going to give the old sun faded gauges some love soon.

Are those the decals that Diablo sells? If so I have an important piece of advice. The two tiny little screws that hold the dial face on....if you tighten them up too tight you will twist and lift the decal and it will bubble right at the screws.
After talking to Diablo about this, their recommendation is to apply a tiny amount of blue locktite to the screw and just gently tighten them. Another alternative is to go to your hardware store and find some tiny black flat washers for those screws ( they do exist in that tiny size). That way the screw head does not contact the decal and won’t twist it.
Good luck with your job and post a couple photos when you’re done! ;)

Well, I didn't do it yet, but I'm gonna add washers to the carb needles to make a half step between notch 3 and 4. Before My 72 became a 750, the 3rd notch was fine, the plugs weren't too dark or too light. Now at the 4th, it was way too rich, the 3rd notch was good in the spring and summer, but now with this colder dense air, the plug looks a little too lean. I could be wrong. Look at the plug... You tell me. I have a bunch of small washers and measured several and found some closely matched pairs. Should get around to it when my Christmas chores are done.20191027_103246.jpg Can't wait! o_O

Yes they are from Diablo.
Thanks for the tip!! I will take plenty of pictures, I plan on putting LEDs in also

Thank you, Marty. I value your opinion.

Jerry, my 72 originals and my Mikes replicas are hermetically sealed. You can take yours apart? :umm: I had to dismantle mine with a grinding wheel.

I have not even looked them that closely. I'll figure it out this weekend or maybe next.
Im so slammed here at work working 13 hour days....

I hope yours come apart, otherwise it's a pain. My originals speedo crapped out at about 45K. The my tach went out at about 60K, so I bought Mikes, replacements. Well at about 13 months, the needle fell off the tach. Mikes graciously sent me a new tach free of charge and I could keep the old. Well, about 6 months ago, the speedo needle fell off. Mike's would not honor a replacement, so I decided to cut the old tach open, epoxied the needle back on and apoxied the glass back on. My next endeavor was to apply the original 72 chrome plastic outer cover to make it look stock. That will be my after Christmas job. When I open the speedo, I'll take pictures. Good luck to you Jerry.

I haven't been here much. I've got Honda fever. 70 degrees and I didn't even start the XS today! Great grand kids gave me a cold for Thanksgiving; crawling up in your lap with little snotty noses! "Ain't she cute?" NO! She has Ebola! I'm gona catching something!
For sure I needed to get it up off the ground! I figured about 4 pallets if I could get it up.

So after a few days I have it ready to move inside and start building it up.

Hey, honey! Where did my rotor go? She said, "I washed it!" "It's in the dish rack!" Say what??

Ok, ya got me. It's the Line Shack. She wouldn't be caught dead with a rotor on her counter. I still think it's cute.
