Bushyboy's build thread

Cover, no graphics, no badges, no decals.
1+ on that. Gives you that old school Bonnie look. Like Bob's 77D

@TwoManyXS1Bs i do like the paint design and was thinking about something similar. I think I’m going to leave her naked with the cover off. My sister told me she likes seeing the frame and since she isn’t biased I’m going to stick with the minimalistic cafe look for now. I am working on something though; see pictures below. Also it sounded to me like my cam guide had a rattle around 2900 rpm so ended up doing some Christmas shopping for me. I got all the parts need to bore her out to 706 cc.

Question for the cruzinimage 78 mm piston users; what clearance did you have your machinist bore the cylinder sleeve to? The cruzinimage seller said his manufactor recommended .035-.045mm , but I have been reading recommendations to use the stock specs of .050-.055mm.

Provided you have a good machinist... you give him the pistons along with the jugs and tell him what skirt clearance you want. Double check me, but I believe the book calls for .002" to .0025" clearance. He'll measure the skirts and bore the cylinders to get that clearance. At least that's how we did it back in the day...

OK, just re-read your comment and see that you get that and your asking about cruzinimage calling for a smaller clearance. In which case I don't know. :er:

From the reviews I have read they are a good machinist and an engine shop recommended them to me. I was going to bring the Pistons, but they told me to bring them as well. He said he didn’t need the piston rings, but I was tracking those should be .002-.0022mm of clearance. There is unfortunately only two machinist that do engine boring on the island, and I’d spend just as much; if not more, shipping them to continental US.

Correct. All they need is the pistons. The critical dimension when boring cylinders out is the piston skirt clearance. The rings are then checked and adjusted based on the required ring gap. The two aren't related.

Finally got my spare cylinder jugs so I took it and the 78 mm pistons to the machinist today. This evening pulled all the oil holding parts for the engine overhaul. Tomorrow this engine will be out and I’m going to begin pulling the head.

A little easier getting the engine out the second time. I pushed the bike out of the way and this little f’er is drinking my beer.

Anyone know a good place to get the long brass holder screw on the starter motor? Found one on ebay, but it’s about cheaper to by the whole starter motor used.

You mean the 2 long ones that hold the end caps together on the motor itself?
