Tonight I had the pleasure of having a "debate" on Facebook. When mentioning my build, things quickly turned around... Funny how you gain respect when you do more than "ride"

To all the DIY guys on here, and everywhere. Your worth more than ya might think.

Bit of a brief explanation. The picture of the motorcycle you're about to see is of a customized Harley Davidson motorcycle that probably requires a lot more chopping and fabricating than people EVER realize.

I happened to stumble upon the comments and saw a post stating that "Yamaha is Gay"

I'll be honest, this "triggered" me, as a snowflake may call it lol.

I responded with reason, and open mindedness, and in my opinion, a bit of wit. The rest unfolded naturally, and I gained respect I didn't ask for. Yamahas are motorcycles after all!!!

To be completely honest, one person's opinion doesn't bother me as much as I may lead you all to believe, but an opinion DOES generate a reaction sometimes. Tonight, I reacted.

If this is at all inappropriate forum material, by all means, remove it. I just thought it was a bit comical to hear the lack of reasoning behind such an opinion.

Typical of a fair percentage of Harley fanbois. I consider their apparent IQ and ignore them.
Downeaster, So what do you have against single digit IQ's?

This is from a guy who has two Sportsters and two XS650's parked in the garage. But don't tell the "Real Harley" people that you ride a Sportster many don't consider a Sportster a "Real Harley"!

This is funny, because they're just so exclusive, but the majority of my experience with motorcycle enthusiasts is true inclusiveness.

They even exclude sportsters as real bikes!!! Whaaaaaaat???

These kind of interactions are funny. The ignorant ramblings of the HD die hards. Don't get me wrong, I own a Harley now and several in my past. But i have owned a lot of Japanese and English bikes too. I've got some friends that are old blowhard Harley guys too. They give me some crap about my other bikes every now and then, but realistically they all started on the same bikes at some point in their lives too. For me, i'm just all about vintage bikes no matter the make. Some I like better than others, but my taste evolves all the time. I like your approach in dealing with them though. It does no good to get confrontational with idiots like that.

Common in all areas
chainsaws "Stihl"
firewood "Oak"
tools "Snap-on"
sportscar "Corvette"
IE brand snob-ism is an attempt to be part of the "inner circle" without doing any research, or having relevant experience.
It's kinda like the facebook version of XS650.com!

Did you say "poster", or "poser"? He probably doesn't even ride. Anybody can buy a motorcycle. Might explain the amazement of "building building it". There's a big difference when you know every nut, bolt, screw, pin, spring, etc. 'cuz you put it there. Is it a real motorcycle? If it's fast enough to kill you (and they are) it's plenty real enough. You go, G!

A lot of people "build" bikes by taking them to a shop and having the work done.
Then there are people like us who do things for ourselves. This amazes people.
I have met people that ride and don't know where a plug is let alone change one.
I have several Yamaha XS650's, I'd sell one or two if the right person came along.
One guy stopped to ask about the bikes. He wanted a gas and go bike. I told him I don't have any. There is no such thing.
He didn't get one of my bikes.
Leo.

Well I have a couple chain saws, a Poulan that came with second wife and a Homelite that first wife bought back in 1970's still like the little Homelite!
Firewood, yes like Oak but when a big old Poplar drops over in back yard I'll cut that up and burn it!
Tools, Have some Snappy, Mac, Matco, Craftsman and even some Harbor Fright!
Closest thing to a sportscar is the 2013 Rav 4 I inherited from second wife's dad!
