Hurricane resurrection

Been a bit since last update. Had to go out of town for a week. I have managed to get a few things done. Wheels are ready for new tires. Getting them mounted tomorrow. New chain guard and grab rail needed some tweaking to get to fit. Most of the hardware is pretty roached. Made some new washers and modded some new stainless bolts. By Sunday it should be a roller. Set the tank and seat on so it would look more like a bike again. Still lots to do before starting on the engine.

Would you believe the tank is almost a perfect fit on a XS2 frame. Cut here a nip and tuck there could work.:yikes:

The English did things differently than what I am used to. The front wheel has no axle nut. Just clamps on each side.

The lower clamps are new. The originals were cast aluminum and 1 was cracked. New ones are CNC billet.
Rear wheel has 3 spacers, 2 adjusters and the speedo drive. At least it has a axle nut. These are one quirky machine. I'm sure before I am done with it I'll find more strange to me things.
At least it's a roller now. :)
On a sad note if things go as planned my KTM will be gone Sunday. I offered it to a guy a few months ago and he emailed me today that he wants to pick it up Sunday. I've never been good at selling things. But this is probably for the best. If I did get it running I would want to ride it. If I rode it I would probably try to do some of the things I did 30+ years ago on it. That would not end well for me. With age comes wisdom, some things are best lived in the past. It was a great bike tho. He wants to race it in vintage class in hare scrambles. Better it gets it's last hurrah than me.
 
Tires look great. I think one of the most unusual things for me to get used to with my old Triumph was positive grounds for the battery.
Regarding your KTM, I think you made a good call. I feel the same as you , these old bikes should be ridden and enjoyed. I hope the guy you sold it to does race it!

Yeah - goofy unwise things like riding 700 miles in the rain and finishing up with 11+ miles of dark, wet, twisty mountain road, in the fog...at 2:00 AM.

I heard or read a few years back, a common mod to the front brake was to extend the arms an inch. It gave better leverage when they were used.

I heard or read a few years back, a common mod to the front brake was to extend the arms an inch. It gave better leverage when they were used.
I've seen the longer arms for sale. When I rode it years ago I replaced the controls with Magura stuff. If I remember correctly the front brakes, clutch and throttle worked much better. Going to give theses a try again.

You were clear. I've seen the longer arms. They give you better leverage on the front brakes. From what I remember the Magura did a good job.
Just a side note I checked the clutch lever against the clutch lever on my XS2 and it had 5mm more inner cable travel than the XS2 lever. May put one on my XS2 and see if it makes a difference when the motor is hot.

That's a significant increase.
The stock unburdened cable travel is about 16mm, about 11mm when tensioned in use. An additional 5mm is around a 40% increase in cable travel, depending on the grip thickness...
 
I used a Magura clone on my race bike and it was a huge improvement. Been looking for another but but even the clones areout of my price range.
