Never in a hurry it's cold up here
Thanks

Indeed. Cathie and I went out for breakfast this morning just get a start to the day and she was remarking how the crappy grey skies and constant misty damp weather really gets you down. She says that her students are dragging and the teachers are too.

My late Dad was a high school electricity shop teacher and later vice principal of a big school near Toronto. He was the guy in charge of student affairs (discipline, attendance etc.) and while he could be pretty tough, he always used to tell me that between early January and late February, more kids give up on tests, more kids try to quit school, more teachers blow up at their classes and more generally negative stuff happens, than in the rest of the year combined.

He always said that if a kid quit school during that period, he would let them leave but not put the paperwork through until March. In the meantime, he would call them up and meet them somewhere for a coffee to see if he could jolly them along and get them through to the nicer weather when everyone feels better about things.

I do hate the winter (not a good thing for a Canadian.....:poo:

Now... on to figuring out how to properly paint chrome. :umm: :er:

Used a #80 disc on a die grinder and then a trip to the bead blaster. Worked better than I expected. I wouldn't want to do this to a 59 Buick bumper, but for small parts like this....

And Took a deadblow mallet to it and made it round again. Happy now Mr fussypants? :D

So... Pete's tank went off the rails pretty quick. Turns out the bottom is rotten. You can poke an awl right through it. :yikes:

4 or 5 minor dings. This ones the worst.

Clean as a whistle inside.

Kinda sucks I put the time into the other one, but that's on me. I shoulda checked the known weak areas first. Oh well.... hakuna matata :)
Used a razor and lacquer thinner to remove the stripes and bondo'd all the dings.

With a little luck I'll get it sanded and primed tomorrow.

Yeah....dammit, that wasn’t a fun PM to receive but fortunately, Jim is well equipped and we’ll get Black Betty going again with a pretty new paint job.

Thanks again Jim!

Pete

Hi Jim,
is that tank's bottom rotten all over?
Had me a similarly rotten Royal Enfield tank and back in the pre-internet 1980s, no hope of finding another one.

If you ever run out of extra tanks the rust holes underneath can be fixed with thin sheet steel patches brazed over top of them.

I've got a nice TIG welder Fred. One of these days I'll cut the bottom out and weld in new metal... maybe even mod it into a wannbe speed twin tank... but that's way in the future.
