What have you done to your XS today?

Finally a Use - Maybe
Five years or so ago, I bought this tank and brought it home only to find that the tunnel was too narrow to fit over the stock coil placement.
The 79 Special frame came to me already modified. Today I stuck the matching number motor (fwiw) in and remembered the DT tank and pulled it off the shelf. I like it. A ways to go yet, though. Retirement therapy.

I have a custom painted DT tank on my bobber. Relocated the coil - see pic. Tank is still a tight fit over wires but tight fits are designed for a little lube, lol. Capacity is about 2 gallons, so when I get to about 90 miles on the clock I know it's time to refill. Definitely not a long-distance bike, but lightweight, skinny, and fun to ride.

The girlfriend keeps encouraging me to sell the bike. Not going to happen.

Back when my family was young, I had an old pickup truck that I just loved and also a Yamaha XS750. My first wife kept at me to sell both of them, she finally wore me down and I did. But I was never happy about doing so.
That’s part of the reason she was the FIRST wife! :cautious:

While going through my maintenance records and costs for the old xs2, I came across the original riders manual. There was obviously no grammar or spell check back in 72. Most of the photos in there were of the XS1, but I found something interesting on 2 of the pages. 10W-30 :wtf: And that was not the break-in weight. Actually, the 72 shop manual is all XS1, with an addendum for the XS2 upgrades. Most of you prolly know that it recommends a 20W-40. Where do one find 20W-40? Don't want to get into an oil debate, (and you know I could, right gggGary), just thought I'd point out some miscellaneous items.

Hey, it's Friday!

2xsive. Nice machine! What are the tires?

Tires are Shinko 270 Classics. Going for vintage look at affordable price. Was concerned they wouldn't perform well but I'm actually impressed. I don't ride like it's stolen, however.

It looks great and not too xsive! Gosh I hope you wear earplugs!
Was concerned those pipes would be too loud, but they are not bad when at speed. Only get loud when you get on it and want it. You could definitely be "one of those guys" if not careful. I live in a rural enough area where it doesn't aggravate neighbors.

finally finished this annoying thing lol. and final touching up on my clutch cover ...can't wait till I get pro tools

Okay, just got done driving new all balls wheel bearings and seals in the front hub. Preparing to relace the wheel, but I’ve noticed that The metal spacer between the two wheel bearings is tight. I thought it should be, but I can’t spin one wheel bearing without it spinning both of them. Is this going to be a problem? Or will it settle in? I thought they should be snug against the spacer since it all gets torqued down. I was worried if there was any gap then when I torqued down the front axle to the forks I could mess up the inner bearing by separating it from the outer race. Tell me what I want to hear guys

You are right. The inner sleeve spacer is supposed to be nipped between the inner races of the bearings when installed. Check the wheel spins free when you put it in the forks.
