Hi chinny and welcome from an ex-Bristolian,
the bike's aesthetics are up to you but no rear and abbreviated front fenders in the rainy ol' UK?
The photo shows the stock front brake lever which is sized to work dual front calipers which is why ii has a wooden feel operating just one.
Swapping it for a lever with a 1/2" or an 11mm or 12mm piston will improve the brake's feel and it's efficiency.

Yeah got it delivered from Brighton it’s from Michigan to be honest it turns over but cuts out just spent 60£ on bits ,it’s rough in places but it’s a project I’ll sort it for summer cheers get some pics as I go ;)

Is this your bike ? I don't see spoked any wheels

Nitpicking here,
except for solid disc wheels, ALL wheels have spokes in them.
XS650s came with 7-spoke cast aluminum wheels or with one of 3 or 4 types of wire-spoked wheels.
And they'll each and every one of them swap with each other, some more easily than others.

Here is the 79 Special II front wheel. Try to find one. Put two SR500 rotors and caliper on there. Leave the stock master cylinder alone and you'll be happy

Hi Machine,
did that to my Heritage Special sidecar rig (except I used an XS650 disk and a leftside caliper off an XS750/850 Standard.)
Yes, happy with the improved brake feel but wouldn't the extra unsprung weight affect a solo bike's handling?

Yup, true that. I only want to go straight on the Interstate now and ALL that weight of the Aluminum wheel and 5mm thick rotors creates such a heavy front end that the rear tire barely gets any traction. I smoke that rear tire now all the way to 70 mph just trying to get rolling ..

So... let me see. Chinny has a 79 Special II & an SG? Or does he have one bike and is the Special II's model designation SG? He has two 7 spoke aluminium wheels with discs and one rear stainless spoked wheel with drum brakes which he may match to a "spoked" 79 front wheel, (I know what you mean Fred,) with dual rotors and callipers off an SR 500? Like Randy, I seem to have got lost along the way.
Have to let the experts sort this out. Will check it out later.
Welcome Chinny, by the way!

Hi chinny.
XS650 parts swap like LEGO and precision replaces confusion, right?
Is either of the bikes shown. the brit-plated one with artillery wheels in post #27 or the wire-wheeled '78 in post #36, your actual bike?
Photos of the bikes that you have, NOT bikes that are similar to what yours supposedly are, will be best.
