possible big move.

I'm just looking for machine shops. 1 is an aerospace shop that fixes and modifies aircraft. The other does 70% oil field work, and 30% other. I've applied at a bunch of other machine shops, but they might be passing me up due to the out of state address.

The interview today went really good. They just wanted me to double check with the wife and make sure I hadn't forgotten a question. So I need to call them back soon, but they are ready to offer me a job.

Well both places I interviewed offered me a job. I think I'm going to go with the smaller shop. Benefits are about the same, but I'll be running mill/turns at the smaller shop. Plus the manager and owner are less grouchy, and I just got a better vibe from the shop. Almost everyone had atleast 10 years, they were less pushy about hurrying the move, have a good policy on overtime, and no second shift. Pay is within $1 between them, and they aren't even far apart. They do 70% oil field work, and the other 30% varies, but it keeps things going if the oil field slows down for a bit.

So once I'm back in washington it is time to pack the stuff I haven't messed with yet. Lots of work to go, but soon I'll be out of washington.

Congrats on the job and move! I live about an hour and a half south of Seattle and the lady and I have contemplated moving out of Washington too. Things are getting quite ridiculous here.

I'm actually down in frederickson, about 3 miles from the boeing plant down there. It was nice having a sub 10 minute commute. So depending on traffic seattle was an hour or up to 2 1/2 away. Property values are up, so we will do well selling our house. That'll let us make the move with almost 0 debt, and have a nice down payment. I'm looking forward to leaving washington. With the taxes going up every time a politician talks its getting stupid.

Nice, that's awesome! I have to drive through Seattle 3 times a week for my job and traffic is a goddamned NIGHTMARE every single time! I actually saw a funny meme the other day that said "Seattle is exactly an hour away from Seattle". Cracked me up because it's so true! The taxes are ridiculous. The local politics are what make me hate living here. Seems like everyday there is a new tax on something. It's insane.

I used to live up in Marysville and worked at Paine Field in Everett... 10 miles right.... sometimes took me an hour to get to work. Moving to KC was a no brainer.

Yeah man, it's ridiculous and most of the time there's really zero reason for it. No crash no nothin.

People don't know how to get on or off the highway. Oh no! An offramp in 1 mile? Better slow down now. There's an onramp? I better stop to let 5 people on so they can force their way into the left lane. Or another favorite, my exit is in 300ft? Better cut across all 4 lanes to make it since I wasn't paying attention.

Well I made it to Oklahoma. Kinda sucks because everything is in storage and I have nothing to work on. The other thing that sucks is due to the saudi/russia price war and the virus I don't have a job. The shop I was set up to go to layed off a bunch of people and said if things change they'll give me a call. So I'm on the job hunt.

Yeah. Luckily the house in washington is set to close in 2 weeks, the equity from that will pay off all debt. So good thing is no worries about bills soon, bad thing is I can't get a place here till I get a job. I have my resume out there, and had an interview so just waiting to hear back and see if more jobs pop up.

So the silver lining is you don't have a place. That means you are free to go ANYWHERE! And you're right that your skills are needed EVERYWHERE! As I pointed out in another post, I landed a job as a technician in a bearing factory. I had ZERO industrial maintenance experience. AND, I'm old. None of that seemed to matter. I wish you all the best. You'll come out smelling like a rose.
