Hi all.
Has anyone ever mounted an Sv650 wheel on the rear of their xs?
I came across a cheap wheel and halfway have an 04 gsxr front end so I was excited to get a rear that matches.
Just from a quick test fit it seems possible but not easy.
Just wondering if anyone has already done it and might have some guidance.
Thanks!

First thing I would check is gearing, i.e. what is the smallest sprocket you can fit on the SV hub. The XS originally came with unusually small rear sprockets, 33 or 34 t. You can compensate with replacing the stock 17 t front sprocket with a 18 t sprocket, but that comes with some drawbacks of its own.
Then it is the chain line/chain clearance. I believe max tyre width before the chain rubs the tyre on an XS, is narrower than the 160 rear tyre on the SV.

I plan to run a 140 tire. But I didn't think about gearing. I just assumed I could find a small sprocket but now that you mention it I should make sure before I have an incredibly torqy xs.

IMHO and after a LOT of searching the GS500 rear wheel is your best bet, stock it runs a 140/80/17 tire, bolt circle works down to 32 tooth sprocket. I ordered a custom aluminum sprocket from rebelgears about $70 delivered.
it's a 15mm axle set up, a pleasant coincidence, so is the radian swing arm!

with a 17" rear you will be using a smaller rear sprocket to make up for the smaller tire OD. That also impacts curb and cornering clearance. Jack up rear shocks to compensate and watch out for chain chewing through the top of the swing arm...

Wow is the radian swingarm a direct fit!?

So I was in the garage and got to looking. Didn't need to machine to move the sprocket. You can see it in the post above had to machine a recess on the outside of the sprocket so the nuts clear the swing arm! It's real snug.

I guess another option would be spot facing the bolt holes. Either by using a spot facing drill bit with a pilot/guide, or in a milling machine, using an end mill. Or even in a lathe, although that requires sufficient cleaeance over bed/gap and is time consuming.

But I saved more weight by removing the whole band! Sprocket band is still as thick as a 520 sprocket (what the GS500 wheel had on it) so I'm not worried about strength.
