you won't miss the fish or the rhododendron shape of the hushpuppies with this ultimate cornbread recipe. the milk must be warmed though or the bacon grease will form a layer at the top. should be baked to just barely this side of burned

Baked? Every one I ever ate was fried. I'll grant you I'm not a hushpuppy cooker, but baked? Or, was that just a small error.
Besides, doesn't real barbecue just come with Wonder Bread? I thought that's what the good Lord intended.
Yep. Hushpuppies are fried but the principal remains, cooked to within an inch of its life.
FWiW...Just had lunch at Rudy's BBQ in Mesa. Had the Pulled Pork. No sause needed! Thick serving on the bun. Go when hungry. Only way this could be better is if I rode up on "SG". Visiting the kids so came in the car. Had a sample of the Brisket. So tender!

And not so seriously, a principal runs the high school, whether principled or not.
We used to call 'em Headmasters but that ain't PC these days.

Sorry Fred didn't see this till today. 2-17-20 was the day I had a heart attack so was rather pre occupied.
Had to think a little but about this because I've eaten them all my life and never really thought about what the hell they are.
Basically corn bread mix that is rolled up into a ball about the size of a golf ball and then deep fried to within an inch of it's life. It's kinda similar to a corn dogs outer coating.
I'm not making this up, our high school Principal's name was Richard Bates. I got into a bunch of trouble calling him Master....
