I have a 1981 XS650SH that I bought with a bad stator. I decided to step up and replace with the XS Charge from Mikes . I didn't think it was going to such a big job. Now I am no mechanic but I have built many cars in my day and one VW trike in '08 that is still on the road today. I am finding that the so called instructions leave a lot of info out and pics are very poor and must be for an early 650.My first question is do I need to use this bracket to mount the regulator cause it will not fit in my frame or do I just get a couple if shorter bolts and use the stock bracket? Cause the only bolts/screws that I see could work are cross head and would be a real chore to try to tighten in limited space. Also for anyone who has installed this upgrade is there anything else in this kit that I am not going to need? I tried to find a thread with instructions but came up short. Thanks John

I have the XsCharge PMA kit and didn't use the bracket. My bike is a 1980SG and I used the stock bracket to install the reg/rec.

FYI - you may have upset some members by calling the PMA an upgrade:redface:

If that PMA regulator is a standard shunt type, don't look forward to a long and reliable life from your new PMA stator.
Google for 'series regulator sh-775' and get ready to do some serious reading.

Thanks for the response. I am not sure what type it is. what ever comes with the XS Charge kit I got . My issue is how poor and vague the instructions are and the fact that nothing is labeled so there is a lot of guessing going on. Not much on line for vids that I can find. It isn't as much a plug and play as I was lead to believe. In retrospect I don't think I would ever buy one from Mikes XS 650 again. But on the good side I found a local mechanic that is willing to help me through the spots I am unsure of. Just want this project to come to an end and get warm riding weather here and have some fun. Thanks again.
