Cutting the cable! TV cable that is

This is more fun than the what kind of oil should I use thread:laughing:
Our cable ,internet and phone bill used to be $150:wtf::yikes:
ditched the land line (using the cell phone) saved $20
built a 2 fugly antennae's cables tv is gone saved $ 60
When I bought my Vizeo it was a smart Tv but about a year ago they changed something (so I wasn't able to watch Youtube videos) so I bought a basic Roku box to make my tv smart again $30
I get 16 stations with the fugly antennae's which include all the PBS stations 3 locals and one channel with old movies on it (antennae tv chanel?) and a few others and we are 60-70 miles from the Twin Cities
My brother and I share Netflix so for us it's $7 per month per person
I generally watch PBS and don't miss the Discovery channel (Pawn stars and whatever :hellno:)
There was nothing to watch on the learning or history channels any more so I don't miss cable
If I'm bored I can watch a ton of youtube videos (type in Yamah 650) And my wife can live with what we now have (where did my old wife go?)View attachment 160403 View attachment 160404 View attachment 160405
Interesting antenna Mike. That your design?

I checked the OTA map for my area.

4 channels total.

3 marked "Don't even try", 1 marked "Challenging to receive".

IOW, I'm boned.

Access to YouTube makes up for it for me. My internet sucks but i can still watch YouTube. Tons of bike reviews and tutorials, guitar gear and lessons, bushcrafting, guns, free music and some ok free movies. Once I had streamed videos I found TV to be a waste of time cause I can ACTUALLY select content on my own not just what fake news serves up.

I`ve spent the whole day on the internet and at BestBuy trying to decide on a new TV. A ass kicking in public would be much easier.:yikes: Started out looking at 75" smart 4K etc, BUT? both Sony and Samsung offer a 98" at a paltry sum of $59,999.99 each and Hisense has a 120" for a entry level price of $12.999.99 WOW :yikes:. Thank God reality set in and I realized I only have less than $2,000.00 to waste on a TV I don`t really need anyway.:shootme: Samsung 82" 4K for $1,899.00 looks like the best I can do here in Shitburg, because we only have 2 places to purchase a TV. Best Buy and Wallmart. I have to get something soon because I plan to devote the rest of my life to watching TV and eating junk food.:D KC Royals and Chiefs get ready.:bow2:

Measure the distance from where the TV's going to be to the furthest distance someone is going to sit to watch it. Half that distance (in inches) is the size of the TV you should be looking for. Ex: my La-z-Ass is about 11 feet from the TV. 132" / 2 = about a 65" LG. Perfect. Not too big, not too small. And think of all the junk food and Chiefs & Royals stuff you can buy after you get the TV stand, sound bar, etc......

30 years ago we bought an entertainment cabinet that has closable doors and just kinda looks like a nice piece of furniture when the doors are closed. At the time we bought it, there were no flat screen TV’s, a 32” was a pretty good sized tube TV and that’s what this holds. Not an inch more. My wife loves this cabinet and it has dictated the maximum size of our TV ever since. o_O It’s a little hard watching football especially when there’s a mob of 1” tall guys all running into each other!

There’s a lot of good deal in tv’s out there. I recently bought a 65” Vizeo smart tv for under 600 bucks. It a great picture , when I can get the internet to connect. I wasn’t sure about Vizeo because I’m traditionally a Toshiba or Samsung believer. but it really is a nice bright, clean picture.

Another old trick, when the old console TV bit the dust, was to gut the cabinet and set a new "portable" set inside the (now) hollow cabinet. The trick was to find the largest portable TV possible to fit in the cabinet. Half way through a program, company would remark "you have a TV inside your TV!" We'd have a new set, but still have a piece of furniture...

I've been using android box live stream Tv for years now No bill just internet and a VPN account. Only choice for internet in my area is Comcast $85 a month for unlimited 100Mbps VPN is $3 month. I would have the Internet service even if I still had Direct TV. That cost me $180 month. no movie channels and only a handful of channels that I did watch. Now I watch what ever I like when ever I like. Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Cinamax, YouTube TV, Any sports channel you want, though I don't watch sports at all. Any movie out there even movies still in the theaters. Only thing I don't have is local channels. My total cost is $3 a month VPN service.

Who woulda thunk it'd be this easy. :D

I think the closer you are to the towers the simpler the antennae can be
I just started with using a 25 ft extension cord connected to the tv and moved it around the room to prove I could get anything at all and I got a couple stations so on to the internet and off to the garage and the simple antennae's were made
