Liquid tape eh .. never found that before. Looks great to paint electrical things with like the turn signal hollow stalk wire exits under my rear fender too.
New Stuff is awesome

This seat is just barely over 21" OAL. and 9.7" wide. I do not know where it came from and it will have to be adapted but since the frame tabs are all "smoothed" any seat would have to be adapted. I would recommend another inch or so as I will be filling a small gap between the seat and tank with a stealthy phone/wallet pouch. ;)
The seat crease at the angle bend up will be just shy of the shock top mounts. It is a solo seat.

Stator wire repair Second attempt. Well rushing the liquid tape drying time just causes a re-do. It is still quite cold in the garage.
This pic shows more patience for the full drying required...
So, I did tweak the chain guide in a manner which tilted and lowered the rear chain rub zone. Chain fitment is how I got here in the first place and soon it will be buttoned up. And I went over to the right side of the bike and installed the starter solenoid and rt side wires. Found a nice spot for the WindyNation rectifier too.
Not as much progress as wanted but ok

All right, that was a tough and unpleasant delay / repair. That is a cramped and reckless place to have such important wiring located. But now I can proceed on with chain adjustment, rear axle tightening. Counter shaft sprocket tightening. Stator rotor tightening. And call the rear wheel and gearing done !

Tired of the work under the engine sprocket cover yet? Me too but here is todays progress after some Big Dog sitting during the only nice weather break. Then garage time. Chain Adjusted well. That 32T sprocket put the rear axle right in a sweet spot in the adjustment range. The rear brakes are EBC shoes and fit pretty tight. Just a little brake pedal movement and those shoes are braking.. they will break in quick surely. With the strong brake working, Torquing the front Sprocket nut to 80lbs was quick and easy. The hardest part of today was hooking up and securing the brake/swingarm rod ends in their brackets. That front is way up underneath there and it was trying to rattle after tightening so a little hardware change including an Oring in there quieted that. The rear anchor is a Pivot ! However the powder coat paint and the MikesXS anchor hardware just created a bind, solid fit.. No Go ! So I found old Yamaha stuff and used this really cool Honda Self locking flange nut. o_O look closer. Anyway being very particular because I want to ride this thing FAST.
Take a look at how the WindyNation rectifier is going. ;)
I'm starting to wire this XS up here and there..

Moe is a Malamute Wolf mix. A family friend. He is very mellow but also very stubborn and doesn't listen to anybody. Fortunately since he is so huge he didn't out run me when he decided to wander off lol. Which he has a history of escaping :lmao:
Quite a funny Big Dog !

While wiring this XS is becoming a "thing to do", I scored on these NGK LZFH zero resistance spark plug caps today at lunch as prescribed by 5twins , XS tuner extraordinaire ;) and am figuring out how to splay the cores of these solid copper core leads. I'm hoping to get by with very little electrical modifications including only the rectifier, Jims rotor, and new plug leads/caps. With things like the light checker eliminated.
It's a promising "looking" electrical system. Under 7k miles.

79 Wiring harness questions go about here. Although the 79 will remain very close to original in the wiring, here is where I am asking for input and advice on simplifying and eliminating just a couple things such as the RLU. I know on a 78 Standard model it can be removed and then the harness gets a little jumper added. 20170627_091719_IMG_0181.JPG like this but can the 79 Special II be this simple too ? And this other black rubber "box" looks more serious ?

I've not yet owned a running XS with the fuse box either but it does look intact and corrosion free so I think to keep that stock ? Anyway, I'm looking things over and ready to learn what to do about this. No, I do not yet have a manual for this model and am almost clear enough in the head to follow wiring schematic. That's where it's at today. Pondering at work. Thanks in advance for any clever tricks to follow up on.
