best degreaser

Cheaper than WD-40, and it works just as good. Walmart, Super Tech Lubricant, spray, let it sit for awhile, Scrub what you can, blow off or rinse off, wash off the residue with Dawn.

Yes maybe, but mineral spirits are like $15 a gallon, kerosene only about $3. There are a couple gas stations in my area that actually have a kerosene pump. I get a couple gallons every few years.

WD40 was mentioned. It's like 90% kerosene. Why pay $4 for a little can when you can get a whole gallon for less than that?

How many beavers do you suppose they had to squeeze to fill a can?

My favorite is the coin-op car wash with a pressure-wash nozzle. Ride up, give the bike about a half hour to cool off, push it in the stall, and blast that garbage right off.

Gotta be a bit careful with your aim, though.

Couple changes over the years for me.
No pressure washer on motors unless it will run to operating temp for long enough to remove any moisture from the innards the SAME day!. Cuz if you pressure wash water WILL get inside.
Mineral spirits in Farnum brand sprayer bottles. They last for years. Farnum puts a reflective multicolor label on the spray heads.
An assortment of nylon, brass, and stainless steel brushes. Toothbrushes are surprisingly indestructible.
Prime ingredient is still elbow grease.
Work over some sort of pan to collect the grunge, getting rid of that stuff can be problematic.

Gunk.
It's not as powerful or as smelly as it used to be but it still shift muck reasonably well.
There's something just so evocative about an old air-cooled bike still giving off a faint smell of hot Gunk as you go to the shops and park up.
Propaah.

Agreed. Gunk ain't as good as it used to be but it's still good stuff. And yeah... the smell of Gunk wafting up from a hot air cooled engine.... sweet!! :D

I have tried every small brush there is. Never been satisfied. most sucked, the rest were merely disappointing. I finally found the perfect small brush:

Very stiff and very durable. They also have a stainless steel bristle version, which is also fantastic. Less than $2. Hopefully you have an Ace Mart restaurant supply nearby. Otherwise you have to buy a whole case.
Also sold as Carlisle 4067400. Under $5 on Amazon:

Trust me on this, it's the best stiff parts brush ever, well worth the trouble and cost of buying. You'll be glad you bought it.
