What have you done to your XS today?

Hey, guyz.
Sorry, not been on here for awhile. Super busy.
The ol' XS1B runs fine, so doesn't need any work.
Been too cold to ride anyway.

In the meantime, I've been seriously sidetracked.

Old dog, new tricks.

My brain is about to 'splode...

I knew when I bought the '82 Heritage Special

XS82.5small.jpg

in December that it wasnt charging, cuz I brought a multimeter with me to inspect it.
Rebuilt the front brake system first to enable moving the beast around (caliper was frozen).

Today I Started to tackle the charging system.
Checked the rotor for integrity,

....and found it to be bad.
With a fresh new battery installed by the previous owner, I'm thinkin' that perhaps he tried to run it with a nearly dead battery, and killed the rotor in the process.

Well, as soon as I get the rotor puller from Mikes', its off to Jim for a rewind !!

Yessir.

PCM/ECU reflash programming.
Complicated AFR, Fueling and Ignition Timing tables.
Wideband O2 sensors for data logging and table updates.

But in my experience, forum reprogramming advice is often worse than jetting advice. Keyboard warriors...
#1 be certain you have the factory map saved. :wink2:

I rode mine last night. I went to take the GPz to Bike Night but if it sits for more than a month the carbs have to come out for cleaning :cussing:
The XS650 started right up and after running a little rough for a few minutes was back to perfection. Chilly ride on the way home though... 37 degrees out.

fixed my kickstand. It didn't have the thing that sticks out(is there a name for it?) so I welded one on and it's now awkward to use. But as long as it does its job I'm ok.

I got an exhaust also. Its slowly coming together. I really need a seat

That looks great Tiesco - but if I were you, I’d hold the brake on the bike or it will slide down the wall onto the floor...:laugh2:

Does anybody happen to know what this is? It bolts to the bottom of the battery box. Whatever it is, its badly corroded on the inside
