How do you wire in a relay ? Can it be wired in off the wiring going to the horn
Yes and no... Your original wiring can be used to activate a relay... brown is power to the relay coil and whatever other color's left is ground when the button is pushed. That gets you to a working relay, then you'll need to tap off the battery (fused) for power to pass through the relay (contacts) to the new horn.

Thanks Jim and wannabridin

Yes, dual Fiams, quite nice, and loud. That's what came on my Moto Guzzi, sounds like a car, lol.

Here's another relay pic I ran across, a bit more pertinent to our application I think because it shows the horn switch (button) activating the ground (as ours does) .....

..... and "doctored" for our needs .....

I originally wired the SG like the diagram 5twins put up. As soon as I tried it, it blew the 10A fuse. I went back and looked at the literature that came with my horns and the two were pulling about 12A. So I ran a separate wire from the battery with a 15A fuse to pin 30 and ran the original brown wire to pin 86.

Not motorcycle horns, but I had a Chevelle years ago that I wired an extra horn into. It was a complimentary frequency. Damned thing sounded like a train! The sound turned heads. The car didn't, but the sound did...

OK, if the horns are pulling that much juice, I can see the need then for a separate power feed wire and 15A fuse. I just looked up the Fiamms and each one could pull a max of 6A, so 12 total for the pair.

They are car horns but I considering them. There are a lot of people driving here that are a lot older than me. That's bad.
Had planed to go to the junkyard to look for big ford horns. The MX5 gets them too.

79 Cafe- "Doomy" doesn't have a horn.
Although in the past a couple times I've beeped horns at animals, I have not a memory of a horn warding off a potential vehicle collide incident. I really try hard to not ride in traffic anyway anymore. The goal of is fast rural roads and forest roads for Doomy. That said, I really want a better use for the horn button which is a good location for momentary use of a device such as -
A small bright passing light ?
A radar/laser jammer ?
A video camera ?
I have a mount location of the original mirror hole. Rubber mount there for any possible use. Bar end mirrors will be on this XS.
Seriously, wouldn't it be fun to have one of these other items mentioned activated by the quick and easy horn button location ?

I believe you are correct, but who abides by all the laws on two wheels ? Lol.. um, not me
A camera on hand for a quick momentary activation by the horn switch could catch some very nice riding moments. A push on & off would be real cool. A hidden jammer could be real effective. Although I'm not knowledgable with which type is the most effective these days. But having it hidden would be a good idea.

Doing some wiring today.
You guys I'm not putting together a stock Standard here to take my gal on a pleasure ride this time.
I'm putting together a healthy, sporty, solo seated XS650 with tuning, gearing, and braking to take on some aggressive, pretty fast thrill rides ! I don't intend to honk my horn on this one.
That's why I'm considering other uses. No cup holders on here, just cheer me on !

Ya, those are real beauties. Do you not see who's driving vehicles around us ? I don't think a Fog Horn would get a concern or quick enough reaction to deter them from hitting you. It's up to You to save your own ars

Wolo bad boy air horn on my Roadstar. You would need a separate relay to power from battery like you mention above. It's mounted below the passenger footpeg on my bike. It's real loud and gets everyones attention.

Hi SJ,
me too with a Wolo Bad Boy (or a Stabel/Nautilus, they look & sound identical) & it's 139 dB surely wakes up the soccer Moms as they drive straight at you.
Mine sits loud & proud on the sidecar's front diagonal strut.
