I'm like your Dad; all things motor related, especially antique stuff. I go to at least a couple tractor/steam/hit n miss events every year. New York is a farming state, so there are lots of shows to go to.
The upcoming "Pageant of Steam" is 4 days long !

Really cool.
Those ginourmous steam tractors are a hoot to watch also. It's amazing those things with their steel wheels didn't sink under their own weight when they were working in some muddy field.

Since we all seem to be Gear Heads in one form or another I`m sure I wasn`t the only one who fell prey to model building? I just loved the 1/8 scale stuff. When the mfg didn`t offer the part you needed you just made it. I resin cast a lot of speed equipment for the flat head Ford. Ardun Heads, Hilborn Inj, full Moon hubcaps, Halibrand wheels and the list goes on & on. Here are a few pics.

I can`t believe GM dropped the Pontiac and Oldsmobile line and kept Buick. What were they thinking?:umm: Like us Chevy fans used to say: I`d rather have a Whore Sister than a Buick. That line was always good for a Drag Strip argument/fight.:thumbsup:

Back in the 80’s a friend of mine bought an older E -Type Jag, everybody thinks of those 12 cylinder Jags, but his was a straight 6. I gotta tell you though, that motor still had a lotta go in it, and boy did that car handle!

The straight six,

4.2 litre DOHC, triple SU carb’s, they also made the slightly limper 3.8 but from my memory that engine (3.8) didn’t end up in a E-Type. We had both the V12 and the 4.2 litre versions, must say the V12 had a different intake grill as opposed to the “jet intake” look with a single bar with the Jaguar logo on it....which was not as aesthetic in my eye. The V12 went like a shower of shit, the 4.2 went really well too. We lived up the top of a mountain and it was 8 miles to the top, I had a Mini, 850cc bored out to 925, twin SU’s, light cam and headers, could go 105 mph with the wind up its date, my father and I would race from the bottom of the hill to home, those were the days. Now I did manage to beat the old boy off the mark a few times, the Mini was quick 0-50 mph, low and fast, but the Jaguar wound up, in the hands of a ex WWII fighter pilot....well no match for a 16 year old kid who had (still has) the need for speed man.....

They were all completely different up until the late 70`s or early 80`s when they (GM) adopted a Corporate Block. Some Old`s and Pontiac`s even had diesel motors that were very soon replaced or the car was just traded for a Ford.:doh: Our family car was always a Pontiac. Before my dad switched over to the GP series he had a 64 Bonneville with the 421 motor. A sled by today`s standards but it would put you right back in the seat for sure.:yikes: No Positraction so it would lay rubber for blocks.:thumbsup:

Back in the day, they were almost completely different cars. A lot of shared chassis components into through the 60s but body panels and engines were typically different. Even if you look at say a 1969 Firebird and Camaro front fender, they look very similar but are in fact different parts. A Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, and Olds 350 share oil filters and nothing else. Even earlier the cars even all had different transmissions and rear axles, even into the 70s you can't take a 3 speed automatic off an (true) Olds V8 and bolt it to a Chevy V8. This is all information relevant to the United States btw, I know at least Pontiac used Chevy engines in Canada in the 60s.

The Pontiac I shared up there is my personal car, I figure I'll add some stuff from work too since this seems to have morphed into more of a celebration of 50 year old(er) cars. Just various stuff through the years. And what the hey, how about another picture of my Catalina just because.

Here's my pride and joy, my 82 Silverado. She was the first vehicle I ever owned from stock to custom. Learned how to drive in it at 10 and bought off my dad when I was 15. Going on 17yrs together now. Painted Porsche Miami Blue and rides like a Cadillac.

-355sbc (AFR 195 street heads, 232/232@.050-109LSA .480lift cam, 9.98:1comp, TRW forged flattops, Edelbrock EPS intake w/ Demon 625 carb, mid-length stainless headers to true dual 2.5" side exit exhaust w/ single-chamber mufflers)

-TH350 (B&M shift kit, B&M Holeshot 2500 stall, controlled by a tall B&M floor shifter to clear the bench seat)

-Bagged on 2600s all around with 2.5" drop spindles, Ridetech sway bar & RT lower plated arms, Belltech Street Performance shocks up front, and QA1 adjustable sway bar, panhard bar, KYB Excel shocks hooked to a bag-over-bar 2-link out back. Running 3.42 gears in a Yukon posi LSD as well.

-Dual 2.5 gal air tanks filled by two Viair 444c's with four 1/4" paddle valves for fully adjustable ride height in all four corners

I think a wealthy cousin tried to give me one of these that he never got around to working on. Didn't take it that way till long after.

MY favorite is 1968 Mercury Cougar. Lots rarer and cheaper. Better looking, for me.

First edition Cougars are one of my favorites. They were successful race cars in SCCA Trans Am.
