Hi all,
I am rebuilding a 650D and want to use a Pamco ignition system.
I know that they are not made anymore but was wondering if there is any stock still floating around.
I have used Pamco on 3 other XS650's and have only good experiences so want to stick with what I know is good.
Many thanks.
Tim.

AKA = Mike's Cheap Chinese Rip-Off of Pete's Ignition System That's Not Worth The Price of Shipping.

Thanks for the heads up on that, I was considering one of these!

Do some more research...............although there was some question about the odd problem with the Mikes XSCharge ignitions there have been nun reported on this site about any problems for a long time........Even The original Pamco had a hell of a lot of returns due to installation problems when buyers would not read the instructions properly and blew up the pamco..............Pete would replace them under warranty .........not because the had to just because he did

in the beginning of this thread i have posted a timeline of the demise of the Pamco......... http://www.xs650.com/threads/boyer-and-pamco-ignition.46859/ ........one thing that does stand out is that Pete didn't tell people wanting to buy or who did buy from Mikes XS was that Mikes was selling the Non genuine Pamcos for a year before Pamco Pete made this information open publicly to this site. .........That was due to people hearing whispers and asking questions and making assumptions.........

There are still those who will discredit a product due to personal feelings and not based on facts

There are leading contributors on this site who twist everything around about a person or product
if their opinions are not lauded as the last word on a product or person. Some have carried grudges
for over a decade. Just the facts. The site has lost makers, sellers and technical contributors who
are just fed up with the BS.

So my question is now which is the best option for an electronic ignition for my XS650D which is also manufactured by someone who is a reasonably decent and honest human being.

There's nothing wrong with Mike making an electronic ignition, even if it's a lot like Pete's, as long as they didn't steal parts of it, e.g. using the same copyrighted circuit board or copyrighted code or substantially reverse engineer it without any improvements. To believe otherwise would be like condemning every car except Ford because Mr. Ford was the inventor. Competition between companies is half of the equation that moves invention and improvements forward

I'm no leading contributor but what keeps me on this forum is the genuine-ness (if that's a word) and the tons of knowledge and experience of the people here. I tend to respect the opinion from those that have been around the block more than once, even if I may not always agree, all grudge keeping notwithstanding. I honestly don't see a lot of "BS" referenced, on this forum. If someone does state an inaccurate opinion that can be corrected by someone with more experience or objectivity/facts, it tends to come out. The comradery on this site is second to none IMHO. As for XS Charge iggy, quality has hopefully improved. I bought one and used it for a bobber build for about a month. It seemed to work great, but then I happened to accidentally leave the ignition key on for more than an hour and it fried. It was my fault.

a watchdog circuit that would turn the ignition off if the input didn't move for a few seconds would be so easy to include. if you were selling enough of them, you''d want to just to keep the phone from ringing if no other reason. it would need to be failsafe so it wouldn't turn the igntion off if the circuit failed

I've been corresponding with a local guy who's been having some XSCharge ignition issues. He installed a brand new system a few months ago. The bike fired up fine but would die once it got hot. He checked it with an infrared thermometer and found it would quit once the head temp reached 250°. He contacted Mike's and they sent him another system. It did the same thing. He looked at the parts on the circuit board with a magnifying glass and was able to get some of the numbers off them. Looking them up he found a 250° rating for some. I guess that explains why the system quit when it got hot, lol. He thinks it's foolish to build the system using components not able to handle the heat encountered, and I have to agree. I don't know if this problem has been corrected. It's been a few months after all, and I never heard anything about this happening before. Seems hard to believe it wouldn't have been mentioned around here if every unit was failing.

That would be Herr Gottlieb Daimler, not Mr.Ford. O'l Henry was the first car manufacturer using assebly lines, making mass produced cars available for a much larger public.

It's hard to imagine the board and the parts on the board getting too hot to touch
