What have you done to your XS today?

Reconfigured my Manometer from 4 cyl. to 2 cyl. Trying to sync the carbs. Once I figure out how to turn the center adjustment to do the balancing it shouldn't take very long. I got it very close and then I shut it down. Restarted and it was way off! WDF?!

I took the day off today and got bored after just a few hours. Took the bike for a spin around town just to get out of the house. When I got home I swapped the instrument buckets back to black, and finally got my turn signals working again with a really jerry rigged solution, but they work. It was too dark to take pics. Maybe I’ll get the bar clamps painted gold this week and take a good photo shoot. I think I like this stance, and I definitely like the look.

So after work I ate half of a family size pizza.
Went to the garage and layed by the 79 to stuff my head under there for a "day after initial run" inspection.
Um, the used Athena sump plate gasket has not a drop of leak.
Used oil drain plugs torqued exactly right, No leaks ?
:lmao:
That used Athena side oil filter gasket did not make it thru the test run. My bad.
I really need to clean the starter connection under there. Looks like a virgin boot on there but how the heck do you reach that ? Never actually did that before...
Oh, not today. Maybe tomorrow I'll be sent home:shrug:
This 79 engine is actually sealed up very well. Test ran just fine.
I really will take proper care of it once its proven to run down the road shifting and all.

Oh and I sharpened up this long punch to poke at the muffler plugs next time

That looks MUCH cleaner than mine. I still have leaks from who knows where, but I’m fine with that as long as it keeps running. I’ll worry about it being completely sealed after a rebuild

Randy, I couldn’t get to the cable connection without first removing the starter. The terminal and rubber cover were right up against the frame. Access to the mounting bolts are all pretty easy to get to with one exception, the one right next to the cable terminal. However if you have a set of off set wrenches , it works perfectly. If you don’t have a set of metric off set wrenches then a trip to Harbor Freight is in order! They’re not expensive.
One word of advice if you decide to pull your starter, don’t be a knucklehead like me and think you can pull that starter without draining your oil first . I’m still wiping up oil off of my garage floor!

Oh Ya, lol ! Thanks for the warning ! I do remember reading your thread that day now !
Thank you for the refresher. I guess I'll take a turn at pulling the starter.. Sure wish I had a cable ceiling hoist eh?

Video still looks private. Apes and rakes go together like Hammers and nails. Unless you’re redoing the whole front end, Keep em. My :twocents:

Have you tried playing it? i reset my settings on youtube lol and then for me it just plays. Yea I'll probably keep em. considering the wiring i put through em :hump:

Good morning. Before heading out to work I looked over my spare lower end on the floor which I previously removed the starter from. It appears installation is easy other than being under the darn bike. Does it just go back together fool proof?
Any way to do this wrong ?
I only want to do it once lol

Thinking about doing the regulator and rectifier mod. I got a VR115 regulator coming but the rectifier is more of a problem. We ain't got no stinking Radio Shack. Mike's wants an arm and leg, as does amazon.
