Just got this cafe racer together and running. There was a metal on metal noise coming from the tappet. I found the nut and adjuster worked it's way off the lifter. The nut is missing though. My question is, is it in the head somewhere or could it have possibly fallen past a valve into the Piston? I am going to get a skinny magnet and fish around, but I'm kind of on lock down here right now. Thanks.

The nut pronging that fence is a bit ugly, but no big deal. time for a borescope or dental mirror and flashlight, it might have headed to the sump also. Did the o-rings show yet?
When setting those nuts I like a slight "yank" on the wrench as the final touch. It sets the threads. IIRC it actually creates micro welds or galls that help hold the nut in place. Not an over torque but not a slide to a stop either.

Ok, so it could have fallen through the cam chain journal and down into the sump? I'll drain the oil and pull the sump cover. Maybe it's down there.
