Im looking to replace a broken ignition switch with oem or close looking to oem on my 1978 xs650 special but am having trouble finding ones that would fit in the original location. I dont want to relocate it as i like the spot it sits it. Anybody know of a model that fits?

Several vendors have a direct replacement, including MikesXS. The only issue I have (not having tried it) is that I’ll have a separate key for ignition and the other locks on the bike. I can’t rekey to match. At least that’s the deal with my 1980 XS1100. One key fits all is a good thing.

Option B is a used lock. Move the tumblers to match the original key. Just get one from the same year model bike.

As a side note, I remember Don Lawson had two 1977 XS650D’s with consecutive serial numbers. Both bikes had the same locks and keys!

Well thats interesting lol. I have seen direct replacements for other years but i havent found one for a 78. Would you happen to have a link to the mikesxs one? I havent been able to find it

That one looks correct to me. 1978 and later XS650. Mikes has the earlier ones as well. From that picture, it appears correct for both my XS1100SG and/or my XS650SK.

The one Marty listed works. It has the integrated steering lock like the 78 special uses. I bought one and it’s a nice unit
