The Lectron Thread

Under the right conditions, I've seen reversion on this kind of bike that was bad enuff to create a hovering 'fog' in the carb inlet, nothing going in, nothing coming out, no power. But, like you said, that's not the 'cause' here.

If I run the bike around, stop it, hop off, open the throttle to peer into the intake, this luxurious silky gasoline fog rolls out. The Lectrons provide fuel; loads of it, finely atomized! However, let the bike sit overnight, and the fog condenses and the intakes will be wet in the morning. As a consequence, I've never had to use the starter circuit on these carbs; the bike reliably starts on the first kick, so long as it hasn't been sitting foe over a week.

I'd love to peer in with the bike on a dyno, or point a GoPro down the carb for a ride... I have a feeling I'd learn a lot!

When in ran my bike without filters. I saw and felt the wetness of fuel coming out on these carbs. Puffs of fuel. Reversion I guess. It was running super rich. I have filters on them now so I can't see this happening. I did lean these carbs out. I never had the black soot you are having though.

I must say, that the easyness of these carbs out beats everyone else... Today I got mine Lectrons 34mm and they rock BIG time.... Idle had to be adjusted a notch and the metering rod a half turn and it's there.

Compared to the Mikuni TM34-2 they are easy and looks just as good, perhaps even better, thinking the see through bowl.

I'm happy and will follow up on this once I start riding with them.

let's see some more pictures of that! they sure do look good, i've always wanted a set of them, but they are $$$

Hope its not too late to revive this thread. I'm usually on the HondaTwins.net sight but needed Lectron tips and this was the best thread I've found to date. Using a set of 32 Lectrons on my Honda cb450 and have been having a hell of a time with them. Anyone still out there with advice?

Mainly idle questions, did you use Lectron's Air Fuel ratio tool? What does your slide cutaway look like? To get anywhere below 2000 on my bike it needs to be very small. I have 2-0XL rods in mine currently.

I purchased carbs new from lectron. so yes, an fuel ratio tool was used to establish baseline.

Slide cutaway on mine is also very small. would say maybe 4-5 mm.

As for idle speeds, lectrons wont be happy with a lower speeds near 1200-1500. you should probably be setting it in area of 1600-1800.

Im guessing these were bought used? If so, what did they come off of? how much rod adjustment has been done thus far?How do they run outside of idle?

I purchased mine new, they came with 0-3XL rods which I couldn't get right. I gave in and installed a dual channel air fuel gauge and found out idle was in the 8's. I'm on my 4th set of rods, currently 2-0XL and I'm getting very close but never perfect.

With stock carbs I was idling at 11.2-12.0 AFR, cruising was at 13 and WOT was ~13.5. The plugs had clean porcelain and dark black ring on the metal housing.

I'll start by saying I've never gotten over a steady 11 at idle with the Lectrons, no biggie as I've heard they run rich. Last night I felt like I got fairly close with the mixture with a quick blip on the road giving ~13-14 AFR. Even with with the idle up to 2200 the bike would die at lights. After reading this post I stopped by the auto parts store and picked up a pair of hotter plugs (NGK 8 to 7). I didn't change anything on the carbs and put the plugs in, idle was steady now but the cruising AFRs were 18-20! I came home and turned the rods 1/2 turn in to richen up and took it out again. Idle loads up and flutters between 1000 and 2500 and cruising AFRs are around 14. Slide cutaway is .75mm, which I know is crazy low.

I'm pretty close to going back to stock...

When my bike died at lights while dialing in carbs, i assumed it was bogging out. leaned rods out it got worse. turned out it was starving for fuel.

Before you ditch carbs, go heavy on adjustment with 3/4 to full turn richer and adjust idle.

Try and tune according to symptoms and plugs and disregaured af guage for now. may be overcomplicating things.

Good suggestion, I followed your advice and richened it up 3/4 turns. Pickup is a little better and plugs have more of a dark ring but idle is too much to deal with. It either races to 3 and hangs or loads up and wants to die.

One thing I just realized is a typo made on the first post, I have 34s not 32s. knowing that you're running these on a 700cc bike vs my 450 makes me think they are too big.

Have you called lectron during this process? alot of the time, kevin ( the owner) will pick up and answer any questions. even if you dont get him, all the guys are willing to help.

Ok running 34mm lectron with power jet. Just have one problem. When the bike warms up and stop to get gas or lunch when riding next time I start it up it revs high and stay there until drop in gear.

efi??? dont think they are talking about the carb version ... was lucky bought mine when the exchange rate was close to par , got mine for about 600 au $ incl shipping with a bit of machining (set up on the bench to my bike mods from the factory) , 2 spare rods and a cable thats why a bit of a shock .. now about au $ 1700 without the s/h or the extras .. when bought mine checked out the aust dealer and he wanted au $ 1000 just for the basic carb .. still havent fitted as wasnt happy withe manifold had BUT now got one i like and have the bike up on the table ready for my r6 f/end conversion and put the lectron on ... if you want one, best off the factory they found for the xs650 needed a stronger return spring and a slight bit of machining to prevent it hanging up .. at the time they charged me a extra 20 bucks u.s... by the way thanks for bring this thread up as have reread the posts and got a lot of good info that i had forgotten for when i get off my arse and finally fit the carb.. opps just reread the add and its for a pair of carbs where mine was only a single so the price rise isnt so bad after all

Yeah I guess their advertising confused me I thought it was an electrical fuel ignition. I am just looking at future options if my carbs ever start needed major repairs. Right now I am pleased with the stock BS34s.
