I am looking for air boxes for a 75 650 are there a few other years that would fit the 75 I got a free set of air boxes from one of the other members with the filters that look like the ones I have on a running 75
the kind you can re wrap with foam over the cages
The free air boxes also had a spring clip that holds the filter tighter to the boxes
Here's a set of air boxes I can get of ebay

I think… maybe..... perhaps ( don't want to get yer hopes up ) I have a set.... I couldn't use the air boxes on my 75' P project... that area was used up by relays.... problem is.... because of the " bug " I can't look for them until... bug gone.... the boxes are in River Falls, Wis. :(

Shooot
I am going to go out and take another close look at what I have already it sure looks like what I have on my running 650
At least the air filters looked the same
Thanks for the reply

I think the ones that have the flat spring to hold the element in place are for the 80 up bikes. They used the BS34 carbs and where the air boxes mount to the carbs is a different size on the BS34 carbs.
These won't work on the BS38 carbs. You can easily swap BS34 carbs to you 75. I ran BS34's on my 75 with foam pod filters for a couple years. A bit smoother running than your stock 75 BS38 carbs. Easier to keep synced too, only one cable.

Yeah that's why they didn't look right to me with out the clip the filters would be sloppy in there where on the 75 they are a nice fit

'74-'79 boxes should fit. '76 and later ones will have hose nipples for the breather hoses to connect to, not a bad thing. The ones in your pic are this later type. They all use a spring clip to shim the filter element tight in the box.

If you do end up swapping to BS34s I have the airbox with all the hardware and also the intake manifolds I’m selling.

See Leo's post below; aside from the addition of tubes to accept crankcase venting the 74-79 standard airboxes and prolly specials are all the same.

I can just plug those up?
I'm going out to garage with my camera and get a couple pics of the original 75 boxes then I'll have a better idea of whats up

I believe only 74-75 airboxes will be an exact fit with the stock carbs. If you used later 76-79 carbs AND intakes, the 76-79 airboxes should work. Caveat you would prolly have to use 76-79 side covers also. It has to do with how those later intakes make a bit of an angle so the carbs are lower especially at the rear.
All that said I think we put a set of later airboxes on JP1s 74 and were able to get them on the carb inlets with just a little wrestling.
So 74-75 side covers and airboxes have the inlet located just a bit higher than the later standards.
I Gotta take a closer look at what's on the running 75 just a quick look at the new ones and I thought hell they are all the same
(same looking filter)

Here's what's on the stock 75 that's running
it's definetly different than what I have now and what's on ebay that what I was going to buy for the non running 75

I wasn't aware of the possible difference in the location of the inlet. If you have both type now, you're in the perfect position to compare them and see. Yes, you could just plug the breather hose nipples on the later box set, or use them as intended and hook your breather hose to one.

I know just wrestling the proper airbox in and out is a chore. That's why I like pods, lol.

I also think pods are going to going on this bike Over with and done
Thanks Guys!!

I think in 73 or 74 is when they went with the angled carb holders. Same year they went from the 256 series to the 447 series engines. So anything from then to 79 should pretty much bolt up.
The 80 up used angled holders but were for the BS34 carbs.

I stand corrected, Leo has it! Could find no differences to airboxes in the bins 74-79 aside from the crank vent tubes being added. Found 75 and 77 side covers with original paint the inlet spigots are in the same place.

So if the airboxes from 73-79 should just bolt up could I just connect the 2 vent tubes (on the airboxes)to each other
Should be fine as the crankcase breather on that 75 goes down thru the case and drops a little oil on the chain
I don't have the other airboxes at home but I will see them tomorrow and take a look on that bike
