I've been shifting without pulling the clutch in. Mostly from 2nd on up. I use it to set off and go to 2nd. If I just put a little up pressure on the shifter it seems to just slide right in at the right rpm. I don't know if I'm doing myself any favors or if it is detrimental to the bike in any way. Any statements or opinions welcome. Thought it was an interesting inquiry.

Yes third and above upshifts clutch is mostly unnecessary at moderate to higher RPMs. Just a slight flick off of throttle, with foot pressure, done. If there's no jerk or clunk you are doing no harm. In general true on most bikes. Possible but harder to get downshifts that clean, smooth without a clutch.

I recall making a post about me doing this as well, once I put my katana shifter on. But, if not done properly it's extremely hard on your transmission. Just like Gary said, "If there's no jerk or clunk you are doing no harm". Also remember that shifting when riding for 20 min, is not the same as doing the shift after riding over 2 hours, so be sure it's correct.

That was standard procedure when I was riding dirt bikes. I really don’t do it on street bikes.

I never use the clutch to change up right from 1st gear, takes too long to pull it in and once engaged I always hope it will stay that way, always use it to down shift.
