Looking for opinions....

The plot slickens..... I bought a wiring harness for a 1975 XSB, but some of the wire colors do not agree with the colors listed in the Clymer manual. Is it not uncommon for Yamaha to change wire colors?

A few more questions.

Can one tell the model year of the coil from either two bullet connectors or one common connector?

Is this little cylinder a diode?

I recall seeing these type of connectors before, usually on ignition coils IIRC. Does anyone know where it would connect on an XS650?

thanks in advance.

650 points coils all used two separate bullet connectors. The same or very similar coils were used on many other models so I'm guessing that coil you have with the double plug came from one of those.

Yes, I think that little cylinder is a diode but I'm not sure what it's purpose was.

From the wire colors (yellow and brown), I think those rubber booted connectors may be for one of the brake light switches, probably the hydraulic front one mounted in the brake line splitter block below the headlight.

Thanks 5Twins.

Right you are about the front brake line pressure switch and the diode. These bikes are missing so many parts, and my memory isn't all that great. Don't think I've even seen one of those pressure switches since the late 1970's.

Having a complete XS650 to look at to decode details would be a great aid.

Are the coils with the square connectors possibly from an XS with TCI?

No, the TCI coil is a dual output single coil, one coil with two plug wires. Yes, some of them do have a plug like that but like I said, it's a whole different kind of coil.
