Oh, yeah. It's sweltering. But gotta ride. I got my summer armor today and gave it a try. Really liked it.

Ive got a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 just like this. I really like it, it’s fully armored and reinforced in the right places and it moves a ton of air through it. I’ll wear that over one of those synthetic moisture wicking t shirts and it’s actually cooler than riding around in just a t shirt.

Mailman, That's a really good jacket! I have an Xelement that's ok but heavy. You have to take the liner out and it's a pain. (5 flight jackets, 2 leather, hold over from Navy days) In the heat, I'm running a cheaper HWK upper and sometimes lower. It's light and cool. Most of my riding is 3rd and 4th gear, 20 to 45 MPH with short stretches to 70. Riding gear is like buying fishing lures. Soon you have a box full of em'. :)

Have a combo jacket with the armor in the mesh liner, if I could only have one jacket that'd be the one. It's my go to for road trips.
I could only have one jacket that'd be the one
could you give me a brand name model # Thanks

Hit a whopping 60 degreesF here in central New York today, so I went out for an extended shakedown run on the '82 Catskills bike, about 3 hours, sorting out the smallest details before my first trip to the mountains.
Got an ice cream cone in Fabius at my fav place, Hilltop.

The newly-installed voltmeter provided reassuring, consistent charging numbers, with Jim's rotor rewind at the heart of the system.

Mailman's recommendation of EMGO grips are also making me happy.

I wired the meter directly to the battery, giving me a much more responsive read-out than the previous connection I did at the brown wire in the bucket, plus it gives me the resting voltage before I kick over the machine.
Dropped some wires to a 1960's era micro toggle switch to the OEM 8mm hole in the frame gusset in front of the tank to shut the meter off.

Next, I want to install the same on my '83, but having trouble finding another 2 lug on/off micro toggle switch.
On EBay, the Chinese switches are all mini's, with 12mm threaded posts (too big).
All the micros with 1/4" posts are expensive used vintage items.

Anyone know where I can source a micro toggle 2 lug that will fit nicely in the 8mm hole?

YamadudeXS650C, post: 643793,

If the meter was a bit brighter, it would be great. I don't know how bright it is at night but I switched my blue out for a white thinking it would be easier to see day riding. Not much. But it works well and is slick.

Looks like you had a great outing today Jeff! Your bike is looking nice and I really like the digital voltmeter you installed and I’m happy to hear you like those cushy grips. Well done!

Mesh gear is fine..as long as its less than 93*..anything over that and you are just cooking yourself. Better off in gear that has less ventilation..If its dry..low humidity and 93+ your sweat is better off evaporating slower to cool you but you need to constantly hydrate in desert climes..As you know all too well.. In the shade if you sat outside all day and just rested you would still need 1 gal/of water per day.... do any daytime outdoor activity and it jumps to 2-3 gals of water daily...in the summer heat...BTDT many times.. People seem to lose the concept of layered insulation..It works just as well in the heat of summer as it does in the dead of winter. Here in NC in the summertime you can see all the migrant workers in tobacco fields layered up in clothes on a 90* humid day and work in the hot sun all day long..They stay cooler event though it goes against the grain... so to say. IBA has done a scientific study to prove layering up in 93+ is the right thing to do..not less clothing...Y'all stay cool out there..You're heat is just ramping up...
