What have you done to your XS today?

I checked the spokes; they’re all good. The bushings def have a little play in them, maybe a mil, but they’ve been that way the whole time I’ve owned the bike. I think it’s likely the combination of the buckhorns AND the new neck bearings. I hadn’t really ripped around at all right after replacing them, and then I swapped to the short black bars, which had me low and forward on the bike when I was speeding around. Now that I’m back upright with the buckhorns, I think what I’m feeling that I hadn't last summer is the front end being super tight and responsive; it always had some slack in it with the original loose balls.
I think your onto something... I had a severe wobble due to maladjusted steering bearings on a new XS750. Happened about 75MPH. Scarred the crap out of me. Also some bikes are more sensitive to a rearward weight shift. But, I'd check the bearings first.

Ah ha! I gots me a new Sound Level Meter! Couldn't wait to check the pea shooters! I'm holding the meter above the license tag. 75.5 dB at idle and 109 dB if you rack it good.
excerpt : " What are typical decibel levels of some common sounds?
A whisper is 30 dB, ( except a drunk whisper) conversational speech is 60 dB, and someone shouting at you from an arm's length away is 85 dB. Noise levels of home appliances range from 50 dB (a refrigerator) to 95 dB (a food processor). Lawn equipment and power tools have noise levels of 80–120 dB. "

Hummmm. I'm gona have to take it for a ride ( and run off the road cause I'm watching the meter) Cycle riding is supposed to be 100 dB. :bike:

Swing Arm Suspended
Finally quit rainin' and blowin' late this afternoon, so I got the swing arm sprayed and done.
Jig allows piece to be turned over when the first side is sprayed.
(Shoulda done the bottom side first so any runs would go down to the dirty side.)
Not that I have any runs.....

the last days I was busy with puzzle games, tried to find all parts for my current project, which is actually not easy, because I use a lot of parts from the TX750 for my XS1 project (swing arm, wheels, drum brake rear, double disc front, triple tree and fork ), the real problem was to find the right bolts, screws and brackets from at least 8 disassembled XS / TX / KZ motorcycles after I moved to my new house in 2010, my moving helpers at the time had no feelings for sensitive motorcycle parts and accordingly all the well-sorted boxes were transported, parked, moved and mixed up, tags removed by mistake etc. a buddy who helped at the time is still in my ears today: why do we move of all this junk, why all this work, bring it to the scrapyard, this was the day I got my nickname: scrap metal

Engine Out - Final Disassembly Tomorrow
The blue 77 is almost down to bare frame.
Full disassembly, cleaning and frame repainting to come.
Going to find out if it has tapered steering head bearings soon!

That looks great! Are you happy with the sound? I have the original OEM version of that and I love it. By the way, is your bike a 750? The barrels look large.

Thanks. Yeah I like them. I couldn't deal with the exhaust that was on it before it came from a xs650 special where the guy drilled additional holes at the tailpipe at the bottom of it was starting to rust and form holes. It was too loud. The barrels are stock size. Since the top end was done. I saw the kit with bigger fins for additional cooling. I will have to post a vid to show how they sound.

Here's the vid

Swapped out my rear 34 T for a 33 T. I could tell I lost a bit of 1st and 2nd gear torque. At speed, I could not tell any major difference, RPM to speed. It lacks the pickup. I can tell it's legs are a bit longer. I can't just dog it up to speed. I have to get into the pea shooters to get it rolling!
Can't leave it this way. I have 1500 miles on the front sprocket and chain. With the new 33 T on the rear, I have an oscillation like a worn and out of round sprocket, that wasn't there before. We all know what that sounds like! With days and days of rain coming, that job will have to wait.

Edit: Would you look at this! 1500 miles on this piece. If I'm not riding the bike it's covered. I don't put water on it! ( Afraid to get it wet. Might start popping out too many to keep fixed!)
The original was a bit shrunk and hard as a rock but it was over 40 years old! $3.25 with shipping but this sux!
