What have you done to your XS today?

A Lot of Work To Do, I Have

The 77D is all dismantled. A PO has disassembled it as well, but in a kindly and responsible fashion. It has not tasted the sting of the angle grinder, nor will it by me. Just going to clean and paint, maybe some minor polishing. I have the matching numbers motor, but it came to.me with a holed piston so I can either do a top end rebuild or use the good motor that was in it which only needs a clutch pushrod seal.
Will resist mission creep..

Looked like this a few days ago. Same key fits all 4 locks, a bit unusual for me.

Despite the work I have to do with the carbs still I can say that I'm finally pleased with how it looks. It looks presentable for the first time in a long time. I've had this bike for 5 months and its come a long way. I think I made out pretty well with this bike with the type of wear that came with this bike. It had about 25,000 miles and had shit compression but everything else was ok in terms of wear. I've read a lot of stuff here about how bad things can get with these bikes. So this bike has a lot left to give.

The time I have been able to put into this bike has helped me deal with a really depressing state of mind and allowed me to put my energy and thought into something to compensate for the imbalance of the situation.

Tiesco, is that a Honda sitting over there?

Thats the picture from the ad I saw for the bike. I never took any pictures of it when I bought. I just took it apart because I wanted something to take apart. I had it for less that a day and I ordered a manual and started taking out the motor. The bike is originally from Ohio and the guy shipped it up to New York for me.

ohhh I see. Well, keep up the good work. I'm here, there, and yon but keeping up with ya!

Edit: Hope you don't mind me saying, but for a younger feller, you got a lot on the ball!

I waited for it to start raining all day! Nope. Well I could have changed my 34T rear sprocket back. Did I mark the master link on the sprocket and sprocket to the hub, Well, no. ( Dumb Ass) I think I can match up the 34T to the hub but I have 104 chances of getting the chain in the same place! :banghead:
Well hell, I could join the Salvation Army and they would mobilize and go to war. So I ordered me a new front and rear sprocket and chain. ( Need it sooner or later) Then the ole lady called and said she was making Goulash for supper. I collected some tums, pepto bismole, a plumber's helper and some crackers! I'll be glad when it's tomorrow!

Your bike looks great, what a transformation! I bought my bike the weekend after losing my custody battle. Getting it road ready and maintaining it these past couple years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Bikes are great therapy. I’ve got to add that your seat and gaiters really give your bike a Classic, vintage look I really dig.

Two Different Wheels
Zip tied the frame onto my two wheeled cart and it rolls around easily. First for cleaning with varsol and rags, then over to the hose for Spray 9 and wash off, now to the drive for some sanding to get it ready to paint.

Today I'm moving again on the 78E needs. Back at the SR500 handlebars I just had to upgrade the Allen head bolts with Chrome hex head for the look. And the ability to use the windshield which went to the 79 Special II.
Here are pics showing dimensions of the Stainless Spacers I made at work to get there..

And while there.. more chrome hardware details if you should also like Chrome :yikes:

You'll find that the two existing bottom holes are spaced correct for the Lucas copy. I only filed those two smooth. The top hole became my wiring thru hole.
So, the 81 and up fender is a good fender to use.

Yesterday while chrome hardware shopping, I met a local shop owner who bought an XS fuel tank from me. We met here at what was Portland Aprilia/MotoGuzzi.
The shut down has affected local shops Very Badly as this is supposedly spring.
This MotoGuzzi shop was small and personable. Had demo rides and group gatherings. Now its closed for good.
Remember spring swap meets? Bike shows? And local parts sourcing the way it was back then?
:wtf:
