But mom, it followed me home! And I'm gonna build it right here!

And what rode in the Fedex truck today? P1000948.JPG New SHINIES!

Friday cleaned the paint off the headers, no rust but what ever paint was used in the past left a lot of unshiny.
Today the weather was nice and I'm not sick so I took the front end off, got winded, started sorting fugly stuff to take in to work for clean and polish.
and I found these drilled steels in the original clutch, I know that drilled steels are used in certain late model automatic transmissions but is there any advantage for the xs.P1000950.JPG P1000949.JPG

Quite a bit about the steels with holes on the TX 750 forum. They were manafactured by Yamaha themselves and stamped out at the same time as the splines. Fitted to some early engines (73) but only some, which is a complete mystery. It looks like it was an attempt to cure clutch release/drag. Yours being an XS2 would fall into that era, but i have'nt seen any in a xs650. One guy on the forum has tried them but apparently they make the clutch snatchy and he does'nt like them.
There is a TX750 service Bulletin stating if someone has a snatchy clutch they must remove the steels with holes and install XS2 Steels. I have failed to find this bulletin. All very interesting. More Yamaha clutch mysteries.

I'm back, been busy. Today the long ago ordered Texavina stock looking seat came in. It is different (read that as nicer), the pan appears better quality than the seat from motorcycleseatsdirect that I had used on the XS1 and the upholstery looks better too. Now for the rub, I'm seriously thinking of triking this bike now. The primary reason being the matching numbers titled frame has been more seriously assaulted than I had previously thought. I'm thinking that if I need to rebuild the frame it may as well be wayyyy different!

Good to hear on the seat, I'm always looking for early seats.

I still have another xs2 frame (no paperwork). This frame(with paperwork came pre-hacked up. Less work to further hack than to hack the other frame and make one that's less.

Just having some fun. Yours to do with as you wish.
You may want to do some reinforcing in a couple of areas. These frames have been know to crack and break. Mine did.
