getting lots of progess with my 650 build. Unfortunately on my "Rebuilt motor" I noticed that there is a crack at the base of the RHS exhaust stud. I have tentatively tightened the exhaust up with a gasket , loooks OK but I fear it wont last. So Im after a new head. what should I look for, and does this look like a reasonable deal? or can anyone offer me one ?

The head and rocker cover are bolted together and line bored at the factory. They are then stamped with matching numbers at the front. Unless you have a matching set they are almost certain to leak and in my opinion virtually worthless.
Edit. Could be worth buying to practise porting on .

Can i get them line bored if they dont match? I will be porting whatever I have done a set of Chevy 327 heads years ago and a couple of sets of VW aircooled heads. So some skills. So do I need a matched set?

If your old head isn’t too damaged a machinist can weld repair aluminum. It may or may not be cheaper then a used head. I bought a used head instead because I couldn’t find someone cheaper to fix mine. Most sellers on eBay separate the rocker panel and the head. I was able to find a seller that still had both the matching rocker panel and head when I got mine. You can get lucky and have it line up close enough it doesn’t leak, but why take the chance.
