Picked up a '77 Goldwing (GL1000) last week. Bike was laid over a few months ago, but used to belong to a collector. Has 24k miles, tasteful/proper upgrades and in FANTASTIC shape for $1500. Title is currently a salvage, but that can easily be converted to a rebuilt.

Plan is to get everything fixed, and start slapping on all the upgrade parts (suspension, 4-4 exhaust, seat, etc.) i've accumulated over the years (this is the 4th GL1000 I've owned). It's currently my 6th bike, but the only one that "runs". Needs a carb sync, all fluids changed, maybe vac lines, timing belts, adjust valves, etc etc. I WILL NOT TURN THIS INTO ANOTHER IN DEPTH PROJECT (swap parts as needed to keep it running as much as possible)

Long term, this could be a forever bike. It's been so long since i've regularly ridden, that I just need something that works. My good friend has been hounding me for years to get one running so we can go on trips and rides together, and this should be the bike.

My free.99 project will certainly continue, as I'm close to getting the wiring sorted. Once it's going, it'll be vetted, fixed and then maybe I'll slap a for sale sign on it to attract the right buyer, who knows!

Anywho, wanted to humble brag about the newest score!

Nice! I had a '78 for a while until the alternator quit. More work than I wanted to do and too much to pay a shop so I sold it to someone with more ambition/deeper pockets.

Are those wheels aftermarket? That front wheel is not the wire spoke or Comstar I expected to see. Nice score!

Wheels are Lesters. I have a set of VERY rare Melbers to go on there, 19" F & 18" R. Plan is to use the like new tires on there currently and swap em on the XS, sell the lesters and get new tires for the Melbers, haha.

I also have a set of factory GL spokes AND Comstars should I change my mind.

I also have a GL (1975), fun bikes and seeing a lot more customs around. Not as easy and simple to work on as the XS but seems like not much is.

damn that looks good! Ya, they're a bit finnicky bikes, but they're 200K+ mile motors made to cruise! Keep em running and do basic maintenance and they'll be trouble free for a LONG time

Man you’ve got a serious stash of Goldwing parts eh? I really like the early Goldwings, just the clean standards. I read once that a Goldwing has more parts in them than a Honda Civic! I can believe it, they are pretty dense. You should post up some photos of your previous Goldwings, I’d like to see em!

Well my other 3 wings were all parts bikes, but since we're all picture whores, i'll share what I have handy... The one on the stand is the '76 I was originally building until this came along. I also put up a pic of the wheels. I sure do love the spokes, but the Melbers are CRAZY unique....
