Standard seats

yep seat n side covers as a set. madness has issues with the look where they (don't) come together.

A special frame I messed around with using standard side covers, that woulda been a project too. Was time pressed getting ready for a trip.
Not as noticable with this paint.

a few years back is when gggGary sold me this 75 seat in the bottom pic.
That was after I recovered the 78 seat and patched up some foam damage underneath it.
I preferred the 75 firmness and look then. Both 78E Standard seats I have owned as well as the 79F, were noticably softer. And the original covers tear at the fake stiching. I think it is a challenge to find a good 77/78 original seat.
Anyway, thats when I learned all about those seats..
Lol, I got nuttin else -R

So, a Special side hinged seat from '78-'79 can be converted to fit the '78 Standard frame by cutting the pan and trimming the foam flaps. Reworking the Special latch will have to be addressed and the placement of the rubber bumpers possibly. A boon to have would be the chrome trim piece to help lay out the pan for cutting. You'll loose some of the pan teeth that hold the cover down on the sides.......pop rivet where needed.
I threw a seat together for me Bud using one of those aftermarket double saddle seat pans and a stepped foam and cover from a '78/'79 Special. The double saddle was for the Standard frame so no cutting was done there. The labias on the foam were trimmed and the cover was pop riveted on. Looks a sight better then that double saddle monstrosity........hope he likes it when he sees it one of these days (out of state storing).......lol

This is the seat on my 78 650e I don’t find it comfortable because of the step in it and I have always assumed it’s the wrong seat for that model can anyone confirm.

Its a 79F Standard seat. Yes, like I previously posted. The step is a bit extreme and I found that seat uncomfortable too. But it is valuable as a rare part.
