Interceptor.jpg On the show room floor at our Royal Enfield dealer. Love the color.. stance.. black rims.... turn the radio.. tv down.. and ya can hear it softly call'n my name.
A lot of " fun " for less then six large...…. it'd be nice if Yamaha introduced a 650 twin again.... the Brit twins.... the Kaw twins... nice machines.. but are they worth the $$$ Vs the Enfield....
I can picture week long solo adventures on my favorite roads.. the kind where the farmer waves back.... breakfast with the locals..... and when I need to do a short rip on the interstate.... no problem.
This week..... leave a deposit…. order a tall fly screen... and fork boots.... now.. to find my old Bagman saddle and tank bags. :)

That’s the model I like best too. The black rims really catch my eye. I’ve read lots of info and reviews and all are pretty appealing. A pretty good variety of aftermarket options are available too. It’s a great price for a new bike. I think they offer a pretty good warranty as well. I just wish we had a RE dealer closer to where I live. I think the closest one is about 3 hrs away from me.

I’ve got a dealer a few miles from my house. They really are an appealing bike. By the way, I just read yesterday that after , something like, a 60 year run RE is no longer going to make the 500cc thumper, a victim of tighter emissions in India. Which I don’t really understand, it’s fuel injected and the motor was redesigned not that long ago.

Not sure where your located but here in CA you can pick up last years model or quite often even a 2018/2019 model for even cheaper. Still brand new.

If I was ever to buy a new bike The RE would probably be it.

The Reason big singles can't meet emissions is because there is a limit to how fast the flame front can move across the piston. There will always be some unburned fuel in there and the larger the combustion chamber the harder it is to burn all of it.

Note the lack of large adventure bikes with single cylinder engines. The demise of the klr650 is an example of this.

HD's Milwaukee 8 is an 1870cc twin. So half that is 935cc. Since it's in production, I'd guess they've figured a way to meet emission standards. I get your point on the flame front speed but I don't think that's the limiting factor as it's obviously doable.
My guess is the vibrations... um... charm of the big one lungers just isn't as well received these days.;)

Jim, I'm not totally sure about what I said. It's just a theory.

Husky has their 701. And yes, lots of big cruisers. But the crusiers turn low rpms.

And the husky has an ultra modern engine Management system.

I guess I'm saying without a total head redesign, an o2 sensor and an extremely lean running computer, the big singles can't meet emissions.

I will think about this more...

The 2017+ KTM 690 / Husky 701 motor also has two counterbalance shafts. No undue vibes I can detect - I have a 2018 701 Supermoto model.

per your post, it also has modern FI, an O2 sensor, a catalytic converter in the muffler, and runs very lean from the factory. I can’t imagine them dropping this power plant any time soon since it’s shared across several bikes within two major platforms, though with the KTM 790 coming out, who knows. It’s certainly my favorite motorcycle I’ve owned since I started riding on the street 25 years ago...

" BANG " I pulled the trigger...… Had to let my 71' Ambo go.... nice old ride and since I want to do solo distance rides... the old Goose was a solid ... and I was 98% sure it could do A tp B distance.... but I decided to go with... new.
Good thing is.. I got twice what I paid for the Goose and this covered more then half of what I paid for the Interceptor… a RARE occurrence when I didn't take it on the nether region. :)

Hey.... is that Iowa VJMC going to happen..? Not " bugged " out.... it's near Baxter Cycle and their famous sticker shock room. I droned pass there a couple weeks ago do'n a road trip to Longmont, Co to drop off a nice Tx750 … but shop wasn't open as I droned on ( 13.5 hrs one way.... non stop.... repeat for return …. ugh ) I'm up for the Iowa gig... may take out my XS P... haven't even started itLBL XS.jpg Xs 650P.jpg this year.. think it has 50 miles on it.
I'll get back to the RE dealer.. take photos.. dug out my old Bagman tank and saddle bags.. they haven
t seen daylight in years.
