I don't know what the rest of you think, but when I look at this, all I can see is a giant muffler!

That’s always been my first impression too. The cans are just about 1/3 larger than they should be, having said that, I think it’s still a great looking bike, and that deal in Wisconsin is pretty remarkable!

The cans are big, but I expect that from any new bike from the factory. Fortunately there are already quite a few nice options for aftermarket upgrades that really transform the sound. If I didn’t already have 3 bikes I would be all in. Maybe next year when there are more used ones on the market?

S+S makes a nice aftermarket slip-on muffler..Plus other performance up grades..Thats pretty impressive given the short time these bikes have been on the market in N. America.

Bullet con rod 2.jpg Bullet con rod.jpg RE 650 1.jpg RE 650 tank bag.jpg RE manual .jpg Stopped by shop to check on my tank and saddle bags fit... shop owner mentioned that my bags date to the 80's... told him so does my underwear at which point the pitch for new bags was a moot point.
I read the owners manual.... had to think... it mentions... " trafficator " .. ah.. photo.. turn signals.....
I like to visit the work shop area... carnage abounds.. someone discovered you don't take a old 500 Bullet.. as in the old Brit build.. points.. carburetor.. and try and maintain 70 mpg.... Ordered crash bars..... Slipstream w/screen... passed on fork boots. Pick it up next week... :)

yup! And it may just be my personal taste but any bike with a “brat” seat is a no go, no can do, get that wanna be cool guy can’t build a real bike seat outta here! Haha

why don’t I really tell you how I feel haha.

I agree, the seat has limited styling interest, no flair.
Like a woman, an interesting seat is curvaceous, voluptuous.

I agree.........looks like it is an after thought and they couldn't be bothered to make it fit and cover the frame...........triumphs are the same.........

Wow! I never appreciated the appearance of the 1974-75 XS650 mufflers. They look huge. Until now!

"Wife said no." Such a deal for somebody. A friend of mine bought one like that several months ago. He's out touring on it right now. He's a big guy and he went off and left the Super Tenere at home. He fitted bags and is logging serious miles. What more do you need?

After an eight day tour, the only complaint I heard was that the seat is awful, as in uncomfortable.

Note: OE muffler is gone.

The thing that bugs me about the RE motor, especially put side by side to the XS is the size and bulk of the engine case vs the cylinder & head stack. Makes the motor look tiny. Like a 350 or 400cc. The XS650 motor looks muscular sitting on top of that just right size engine case.
Agree on the seat. Looks like just another hipster stretched some vinyl over a skate deck.
No offenses meant. Just MHO.
