1973 TX 650 Rebuild

Stinkin' Hot Shop Solved
Bring it into the a/c - bike's all clean and fresh paint, no fluids plus Mrs. Lakeview is way out west visiting new grand twins so why not.
But seriously, I am going to get some significant reassembly done while I have the chance, particularly to determine if I have all the early bits I need. One of the first jobs is to make those forks presentable.

Very nice! Hustle a bunch of parts on there and quickly roll it back outside and Mrs. LV Will be none the wiser! :D
Looking good!

Its OK Angus, I won’t tell her where you had the bike while she was out west.....

Freshly Resealed Forks Ready To Install
(Or slide down and dent the hardwood)
Now I can unwrap those freshly painted headlight ears and the bucket and get to work.
Purist Alert: May use rain catcher rims on this one.

Rear Fender Mounts Puzzling
I did not take this one apart and cannot find any fiches that let me see a pic of this fender mount. I see the cups mount onto rubber bushings mounted on the frame, but is this triangular item part of the mounting system and if so is it oriented properly and what does the third hole bolt to.
Confused I am.

Rectifier mount?

Is that the rectifier Bob (red arrow)? If so I think it's the bracket for it confused Angus is.

Jim, I think you have it. Electricals are still to come so till I get there, I have my answer. Thank you both.

Yes, Jim that is the rectifier.

That triangular bracket has me going. I really can’t place it. The rectifier on my bike was mounted with a single bolt that goes through the rectifier and straight into the battery box.

Interesting. Just looked at the IPC's for XS1, 1B, XS2, and TX and they all show that bracket. Maybe yours was modded in the past. @gggGary .... @GLJ ... you guy's got anything?

Bueller?

Going to need hazardous duty pay.
It's a jungle out there.
Triple my normal rate?

73 no 72 no, but 70 and 71 yes to the triangular bracket, new bigger battery box on the estart models eliminated the need for it?

Mystery solved.
Angus, that rear fender I sent you was from a70 XS1. So.... I'm guessin' you'll prolly just need to delete that bracket.

Good man Gary! You saved me from tearing into my XS2 tomorrow! It was driving me crazy thinking I just forgot where it went!

Thank you all.

I could tell you how I made fresh rubber bumpers with a hole saw and a hockey puck, but I would be lying about the puck. I used a piece of thick rubber, couldn't find a puck, some kinda Canadian, eh?

Exit Inspection by the Short Snout Crew
Out of the a/c, into the humidity. Got less done than I hoped, but trying to collect all the bits for the final assembly in one or two boxes. May spring for a repop pair of front signals.
