Kickstarter issue

See if this helps.

So out of the 20 times I’ve tried putting it in, I haven’t tried that one exactly as he describes. So I’m gunna try that one tomorrow afternoon and see what happens. That’s the simplest installation I’ve seen so far and the one that makes the most sense.

All that video proves to me is that if need be, you could fix your bike with 2 sticks and a rock, lol. Guess that guy blew his wad on a video camera instead of the proper tools, lol. Please don't be grabbing any splined shaft with pliers, that's an awful thing to do. Basically, the video shows the kicker install the same as my post explains it in that other thread using writing with pics. Same exact procedure, MINUS the grabbing splines with pliers part of course. Jeez, where do these guys come from, lol.

Sir
I have not read the thread ...so I apologize if this is stupid I am a bit busy now
But I once poured in oil into the cylinders for a compression test .To much oil.
When i tried to kick start it was " Rock Solid " like kicking on a large stone.
After a while I could get it moving ...Oil slowly leaking down i suppose -- and eventually got it started.
With the largest smoke cloud behind the bike ever seen.
But no further action needed.
So if the pistons are not moving properly / freely the kick can get stuck is a fair assumption.

You said neutral was tricky. Sure the bike is in neutral?

I can only assume that since I can roll the bike without the clutch engaged (disengaged? Whichever would refer to the clutch lever not being pulled in haha) that it’s in neutral but at this point anything is possible lol The old clutch cable wasn’t even hooked up when I got it. The new one is in and adjusted properly as far as I can tell but maybe from the cable being disconnected for so long the clutch got messed up?

Yeah your post also made sense, I’d also never grab the splines with pliers like that haha I was amazed he filmed that.

I don’t believe there is anything in there. I’ve spun the engine by the crank bolt easily through a few strokes without the plugs in it and with the plugs in it. The piston could be a little sticky but I don’t believe it would be enough to have the kicker be locked like it is. But definitely worth checking into a second time. I may just end up stripping this whole bike down anyway.

I just unloaded the ‘83 I bought yesterday and tried rolling that while in gear and it is a night and day difference compared to my ‘79. I’m furthering my suspicions that the ‘79 is jammed up.
