That sounds similar to my experience when I sold my carefully restored 1970 XS-650.
I always wanted one and satisfied that need quite well with the resto and a few rides.
I was strung along for a month and a half by a chap from Australia and I finally dropped that and entertained a visitor from Virginia and he came down and bought the bike without much fuss. Glad I didnt let that farce goon too long.
I had done a LOT of new stuff and managed a great paint job on mine and his opinion and It sold for $7500. It was tough because at only so few miles it was still weening off of the rings settling in. I had only run it something like 70 miles. He was ok with all that and the build sheet and receipts for Guides pistons and rings so we got along OK.
I hated to sell it But I cant keep too many and my Triumph Bonneville feels so much better.
With the XS I felt like I was sitting on top of it and it over-steered and felt narrow. With the 71 Bonneville I feel like I am sitting In it and it steers so much better.
I still love the looks of an XS and will maybe build another one. One that handles well.

Nah, just dropped the ad. Could deliver it to Illinois. :sneaky:
If a 70 was something I had a burning desire to own I would jump on it. I'm sure we could get together on a price.
I would not mind having a 70. If I ever do I'll probably overpay for a POS and then spend a year or three resurrecting it. Plus spend 3 to $5000 on top of what I paid for the bike. To me that would be more fun.:shootme:
Unless I ran across one as nice as yours for half the price.:er:

I've seen this on several occasions around the midwest. Nice and tidy.. well sorted. For the price... great deal. It would difficult to find a Xs1.... get it this level.. for less then $4500.oo. Perhaps ck with " Bring a Trailer ".. that site seems to enjoy " deep pockets ".
