What have you done to your XS today?

Went riding with a guy recently (stupid fast rider) and he said the tires not done until you can see cord all the way around. Looks like you can get a few more miles out of that tire Gary

In the Air Force our jets tires had red cord as the innermost cord. 'Sposed to change it when you saw the red one. We'd black magic mark the red out and go one more flight. Go 'till you see the red cord Gary? :D

Messin' Around on a Saturday
I had this rashed up early standard fender that turned out to have a bit of a twist to it, so I chopped both ends off of it. I think the narrower tape used as a guide the easier it is to cut accurately. Otherwise its like trying to get yer sideburns even.

Last Frame in the Shed - 78 Special
Modelling the shortened fender and the left right calipers I have been saving for something. Nice red side covers from MaxPete, thanks.
Trying to get all the bits onto frames so I can see what is surplus.

Yesterday cleaned an unbelievable amount of crap out of the tank and this morning fitted the fuel taps, checked for leaks, then mounted the tank on the bike. Discovered a problem ... the standard tank is wider at the rear than the special one, and I'll have to cut some of the beautifully painted side panels away to stop them fouling the tank. Bugger.

In the afternoon, rode to a local old-Jap-bike meet in the sunshine and had a lovely chat with John, whose '73 TX tracker is rather nice. And wished I'd taken some photos!

May have mentioned I got all my engine work back from machine shop and have wheel spokes...I have everything to start re-assembly BUT, just hit an impass. Heat, humidity, lazy, took a break. Maybe that costco sangria..highly recommend that if too hot outside of garage. maybe it was another bike I've been trying to come across for a few years...like this green one. Love the chrome lugs, my 60's Atala has the same. Hard to paint around though.

Strenuous Day on the Powerbox.
Way back in spring of 2014, I bought this 76.

The following winter, I set about to rebuild the top end of the motor, paint the frame and generally freshen it up. I got the motor reassembled and put into the frame, then retired and then bought a few more, then moved, and so on. Along the way, I fought with reinstalling the kick start, got confused with draping on a new harness, fixed the starter spring and generally educated myself on these machines, but never got much past this state.
Today I got it started! So pleased! Took a lot of cranking and several anemic rrumm, rrumm's and the left side came to.the party a bit late, but finally was able to run the carbs dry twice.
My worries about having installed the cam properly and assembling and setting the points and timing wafted away.
Feels good.

Excellent - that is going to be another nice Lakeview Original!

Here's a mock up.
Looking at it, I think the raised portion of the side covers should be painted red as well, if only to give contrast to the OHC 650 Electric decals to be applied.
