Marbles Motors failed gas tank liner, then screwed up the warranty repair!

Word on the street was those tanks were kinda thin, any comments mm?

I can’t tell any difference in thickness, could be I suppose. But I can tell you that the paint is thin and it chips easily.
When I’m not riding it, I keep the tank covered with a couple of heavy towels.

Unbelievable : The 1,017 tanks Mike had made are all long gone. Tank metal was Thicker than OEM and
Mike sold them with the gas cap and petcocks included. Petcocks were manual type to replace
vacuum types so therefore the flange spacing. No matter what you do you whiners always have
complaints. Paint was applied so the tank could be used right away rather than the buyer having to pay
the high cost of painting. Ever wonder why there are so many 77D models with nice tanks ?
Makes us reconsider getting back in this game. How many tanks exist that are not rusted bondo filled
originals ? Answer : mostly. Out of the 1,017 tanks there were about 45 Defective - meaning minor paint
blems found by preship inspections - He Never seen even one return . Joe

Also: Shipping is not the sellers responsibility - Do you want product to be hand delivered to your door ?
How about we ship it and you pay for it a year after you try it out ? Petcocks Mike included included fittings
so they would fit right or left. To complicated for you ?

No matter what you do you whiners always have
complaints.

And I will think twice about buying from someone with that kind of attitude Joe. MM was simply responding to an honest question about the quality. No whining going on there. What happens when someone has a legitimate complaint about a product? Is this the sort of attitude you will take with them as part of your customer service? In this economy I think consumers are being very particular about what they are buying. When you look at things on line there is no way to gauge the quality other than what other customers feedback. I think these are honest and legitimate comments. Just my 2 cents...

Lay blame on your customer and you're done before you start.

AH! The burger king generation - We want it our way or not at all. Same crowd that buys an item from Wallmart
and then wants to return it a year later without a receipt. If, IF we proceed ALL parts will be sold as Race only parts
with No warranty only returns within 30 days and on materials and workmanship. You want to buy an item cheap but
never think about the Hundreds of thousands that need to be spent to get it done. Same crowd that thinks that
all Asian parts are junk. Even " Made in America " Harley Davidson is having most of their parts made outside of the USA.
If we kiss your ass you would still have the same attitude - Have your restored rust.

You just don't listen or pay attention. Good luck.

Sorry for the derailment on your thread Bob. This discussion could/should be a thread of it's own. Let's stick to talking about tank liners in this thread from here on out.

Ha! I don’t care. It’s much todo about nothing. I’m actually quite happy with my replacement tank. Any comments I made were merely observations not complaints. I’m not really sure what all the excitement was about. I bought that tank from a private individual on eBay, not Mikes. Any references I made regarding shipping and damage occurring during shipping , were about me and a private party, and rough handling by the post office. I think the replacement tanks were a good value. Anyways.....back to waiting for my tank to be repaired.

You know.........
If my comment/question was enough to unglue you like that mebbie you aren't suited for retail 650trader.
I think I had a bike with one of those tanks a few years ago but it wasn't around long enough for me to recall it's construction.
Repo fuel tanks, who would have the temerity to ask about thickness, quality, right?.

Have an original MikesXS tank on a bike. .....The rear bracket is made from thinner gauge steel compared to the originals. have seen a tank where that piece broke off.........I will weigh it and compare it to a 74, 76, 79 Standard tanks and post back.

Trader, your right about Mikes selling a full tank with Petcocks and cap. When MikesXS first traded hands, the new dealers, put th tanks up on sale with a 55% reduction..........the con was that the tank was presented without petcocks or gas cap.............done a cost analysis and write up and posted on this years ago, the new idiots on here, at the time, were happy to get such a good deal on the tanks.......

Fact: The customer is always right. Don't give me a hard time or deliver me junk, because I won't be back for more. It's best to learn what customers you want to serve before you get started.

So far all we've got from you is vaporware. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to reconsider getting in... don't you actually have be in... as in selling something?
Your "angry old man" shtick is wearin' thin. Put up or shut up.

We are IN because we have about 1.5 million US$ worth of stock but we are seriously
considering selling all now to Europe or elsewhere. If you think this is bs I invite you to come
and have a look and buy all you want. You seem to know more than the others in a technical sense but maybe interested in our
40+ year source and tech library. We list about 1200 products now but have hundreds of items waiting.
Mike started his biz as he always owned XS's and wanted to save the bike. BS No but maybe you would like
to try your hand since you are so knowledgeable about the import/export/distribution and bike parts manufacturing.
I take it that you are calling us liar's and I am calling you to see our proof here. Joe

No.... I think you're missing the point here. Not to speak for others, but I think most of us would love for you to have 1200 products to choose from. In other words, we want you to be for real. The point is WE WANT TO SEE 'EM. A catalogue page... a picture of an overflowing warehouse... a link..... ANYTHING but just talk. If you're inviting me to Florida just to confirm you're for real, I'll have to pass. Surely you can offer more than just bluster and ruffled feathers whenever someone questions the quality of aftermarket parts. Standing there yelling hey you kids get off my lawn just makes you look like a grumpy old man.... and not someone with a catalogue of 1200 aftermarket parts for us to drool over. As I said before, put up or shut up. I've eaten my share of crow in my day... offer me up a plate.

The tank on the resto-mod is an original from MikesXS (came with the cap and petcocks).

I can’t complain as is seems well made and quite robust. I’ve had the tank off and on more times than I can count and it has never felt flimsy.

The only issues I had with the set up were 1) the petcock sealing washers disintegrated/ leaked and 2) the gas cap wasn’t initially sealing/ seating properly. Both were easy fixes.

Both are fair points..........there is one picture that pops up on here occasionally, that shows a fault with a part, to prove a point.........this pic is at least 6 years old, the poster had/has problems with a previous business owner and still uses the pic to take a dig at him, and the new owners.........Does that sway a prospective buyer......yes, not every time but yes, they have stated so

Also in today's internet society there is a de-evolution revolution, that makes it harder for the grumpy business owner to survive ........where as before they may have been tolerated because they serviced a smaller area and not the internet where trolls run supreme
