did a compression check on a 81 stock (i think) engine with a new tester and i got 152 on each cylinder. does this sound like a lot? I know the engine has a 8.7:1 ratio. Btw the engine has 8300 miles on it.

That's excellent. Yamaha specs a range of 128 to 156 lbs.

If there is huge variation between the 2 then it's cause for some concern but a few psi is ok.
