Yeah, yeah, I know, the answer is "Yes".

25 years or so ago during an upstairs remodel, I took the window out of the wall of the half bath and replaced it with an opening skylight.

Not the best idea I've ever had, it's leaked off and on the whole time.

So, out with the roof window (the crew that re-shingled the North slope of the roof did that for me) and back in with the wall window.

So far, and I'm not done yet, it has taken two full days to uncover and open up the original rough opening, frame it to the new size and install a new, smaller single hung window. And one of those days, I had a helper all day! Still need to paint the drywall and trim on the inside and re-install the oak chair rail on top of the wainscotting. Bet that'll kill most of another day.

I don't remember a little project like that taking so damn long.

OTOH, lebendy-seven trips up and down the damn stairs is good exercise I guess. Seeing as NOTHING is plumb or square in this 100+ year old house, every single piece has to be cut, dry fitted, trimmed, fitted again, shave another whisker off, shim it up level, nail it and move to the next piece.

Ibuprofen for supper, methinks.

I feel your pain De... my house is somewhere 'round 70 yrs... on a slope... made of clay. It weren't square the day they built it, now it's almost comical.
Cut, fit... trim a little, fit... trim some more...
When you can't get a level bubble anywhere in the house, where the hell's your starting reference?

Friend of mine has the same issue with his house...if anything, it's worse. He builds stuff to a standard he calls "eye sweet". You stand back and look at it, and if it looks good, it IS good. Don't believe he owns a level or a square.
Well DE I can assure you it looks spot on from where I'm sitting!

^^^ Yup.

Have rethought the trim tho. The bathroom is half-paneled in v-match painted white. There's an oak chair rail on top of that.

Plan A was to trim the window in pine and paint it white to match the paneling. Trouble is, the drywall is white too and the window is white vinyl. It'll all sort of blend together. Thinking I'll replace the pine face trim with oak to match the chair rail and provide a little definition. That'll be easy enough, it was the inside trim on the studs, header and seat that was a bitch to fit. I'll leave that and paint it white.

Replacing the top rail on one side and rebuilding the pailings

Always use the eyecrometer to measure against the things around me..........
.if it is out of plumb i will usually plumb to suit existing..............This was a problem...........Owner didn't want me to match existing....!!!!

Wife's doing her own remodeling. She took down a full length mirror and was gona chunk it. I said, no don't do that, I'll take it and put it in the bath room of the lineshack. Worst mistake I ever made. First time I got out of the shower, I found out I was MALE!
