Date isn't important, the vin no states a 77. if its registered as a 76 it only matters to a purest........where that weld is concerning.......what was welded?????

Of course the date is not important, except if you want to know where your bike comes from and where it rolls to ;)
According to the VIN, mine is a D, not a C, but as I do not like "Bountiful blue" or "Maxi Marroon" that much, I a very glad to do as if it was a "French blue" C ;)

Hi Alex,

Tlc is an abbreviation for the Us-slang term " tender love n' care"
Meaning, personally I think that the brake calipers that you have on your as well as I do have on my xs (and my Sr) are a heap of crap since they are floating calipers instead of the old Tz-style "dual pistons", and thus the more brake force one applies the more sliding friction one has on the sliders of the caliper that one should every couple months check for stick friction, one can get them to work mighty fine with sintered brake pads (would have to look what the brand is).
In case you need some european spare parts dealers, you know that there are two good (at least they used to be about 15years ago) ones in germany.

First thing I would control if your ignition advance shaft runs in needle bearings or in bushing, and in case of bushings junk them immediately.
Don't ask me why I suggest you to do so besides the marvelous upper rod knock I had on my old engine:D

Kind greetings from genova

Christian

Hi mates and sorry for having been absent for a while.
Thanks a lot for the replies and explanations.
I have been quite busy and last weekend, I picked up the tank and other parts by the painter.
And now here are some pictures.
Work in progress and next step next weekend.
Cheers.

I think you may want to route your new brake line down behind the headlight .....

..... then over the front of the lower triple tree .....

You can fab up a little guide strap and bolt it where the original junction block went .....

This keeps the new line tucked in nicely and you don't even need that clip down on the fender mount anymore .....

Looks like someone "repaired" that steering stop, hence all that nasty welding, lol. I'm by no means an expert welder, but even I could do better than that, lol.

I'm a bit late to the party, but welcome! Beautiful motorcycle you have, sir! I think I would have someone qualified look at the frame to ensure the welds are safe.

Lot's of great roads once you get outside of Paris. It's been ten years since we visited, but boy would I love to go again!

OK, maybe in 10 days.
Here is a vid, made the day I bought the bike, in which you will be able to see the fork, disc and brake caliper :)
A kind of before, before the after.
By the way, what do you think about this used brake master cylinder ?

Short comments
Sounds good overall ...The Clocks are Replaced ?? ?? Clocks appears to be European with high mileage on them
65 000 km
To me the engine sounds tighter than that .But work might have been done
I do notice a little smoke on the right side 0.17.
That can be ( Most likely is ) the valve stem seals dried up under storage.
Not knowing if this is a first cold start . Or if choke is on .
If so ( valve stem seals ) nothing major .But something to have on a list for inspection when other work is done.
I would not do anything. Now Given how it sounds
Besides driving it see if anything changes .Perhaps a compression test.

Thanks Jan !
I am so glad the bike is now out of the garage.
It runs very well and everything is functional except the front brake switch I did not connect. I painted the headlight glass with a removable yellow paint, cause until the mid 80's, headlights in France where yellow (either the glasses or the bulbs).

Wiring for the 76 Gauge cluster must have been a bitch to marry into the 77........Nice job. .....Whats the cable running along the tank on the left side
