This morning's view from my deck. Will look like that in June as well and I'l be able to ride most days in between. Not trying to be a smart arse, Gary's photo is beautiful and rustic, but I'm amazed at your winter weather. The idea of a "last ride" sounds ominous but, I suppose the opportunity for maintenance presents itself - along with frost bite. My wife's a pommie and she talks of winter's where you don't go outside on the week-end. So much to see and such little time!

Nice view David!

Some of the scenery around your place doesn't look like perdition either Gary and Mailman's Arizona always makes me feel like I'm watching a Howard Hawks movie. Guess we're all doing OK, (except for Downeaster, poor bloke!). Here's la dulce casa, seeing as how I have the phone out. Heading for 35 today, (C that is).
Cheers

I got to witness "muscle memory" take charge on today's episode of "Riding to work". At 55mph give or take, a pickup pulled out in front of me from a side road. Emergency braking on my Stratoliner demonstrated the front brake locks up and the back brake did not. I left a 12' to 15' black mark on the black top and remained upright. The pickup stopped half way into my lane and I easily maneuvered around it to safely make it to work. It has been a long time since I locked up a front brake like this but am happy to know the bike is steady under extreme braking. Head on a swivel folks...

Wow glad you’re ok. Don’t know how my bike would react if I hammered the front brake real hard. Hope I don’t have to find out the hard way.

Just a few years ago, I had that happen to me twice on a 30 minute ride. Both as you describe, first a car, then a truck. First from the right, then from the left. First one at 55 mph, the second at 30 mph in very close quarters. PUSH LEFT, TURN LEFT......

I'm glad you made it to work in one piece, Boog!

WHEW! and a heads up; PRACTICE emergency braking, obstacle avoidance, regularly, the life you save will be your own! Empty road, street, pick a tar line see how fast you can stop, pic a spot on the road avoid it, work on sharpening your skills. Counter steer, it's not a theory. Do this on ALL your bikes. each one has a different best way to stop, avoid.

Happy to hear you handled that situation well Boog. It can be challenging sometimes. Before I retired, I was commuting every day through thick urban rush hour traffic on a Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, that bike had triple disc ABS brakes, I never really appreciated ABS brakes until I had to really jam on the brakes a few times, due to cars pulling out in front of me a few times. You can apply maximum braking and the bike just stops smoothly, it’s really pretty cool. You can feel a slight pulsing when the ABS is working.

I just took mine out on a quiet road and just kept trying braking a different speeds to see how I and the bike handled
I've dammed near locked up the front brake on the 650 it howled a bit but now I have a good idea of what I'm working with

ABS is cool, great.
I wonder how many have gotten hurt because they never explored the limits on their ABS bike and were afraid to actually USE it when needed?
I have had ABS bikes and did some practice hard and dirty road stops, it is amazing what it can do and scary to GRAB that handle on gravel....Unless you have tried and trust it.
