Metal chunk in oil

Found this metal chunk in my oil can anyone ID it?

Yep. Tranny gear dog. Had a chunk off my 2nd gear on my 75 many years back. I could still ride her but it would clunk every turn. One night I did a tranny gear swap before a Week end club run. That and installed swing arm bushing swap out too. What an all nighter.
 
Had a very similar piece of metal came out with the oil, 1979 SR500. It was a 3rd gear engagement dog. Bike was 15 months old - wrote a letter to Yamaha UK. The reply was a one-liner, The guarantee on your Yamaha motorcycle is strictly 12 months.

I guess yours is out of guarantee as well.
 
The good part is you found it early. One nice bit is you can access the transmission with the engine upside down so the head/pistons will not have to be stripped down. Still a fun all weekend job. You may want to replace the oil seal on the final drive sprocket at the same time. I find this to be the hardest seal to replace on an assembled engine.
